Projected Seeds for the 2009 Australian Open (Men’s Singles)

With so many of the world’s top players competing for the Australian Open Cup, it’s hard not to lean toward the favorite, Roger Federer, who is one of the best professional tennis players of all time. Federer is 27, which is relatively old for the sport, but he does so many things well, he is my pick to win the 2009 Australian Open. Federer has great footwork, a monster forehand, and an amazing serve. His speed helps make up for a so-so backhand, but there really aren’t many weaknesses in his game. Everyone is ready to hand the World’s Best Tennis Player title over to Rafael Nadal after he finished ranked #1 over Roger last year, but I think that Federer still has a few great years left in him, he just might not be as dominant as he has been.

2009 Australian Open Predicted Winner: Roger Federer

The women’s version of the 2008 French Open holds just as much intrigue as the men’s version. Like Rafael Nadal, Justine Henin is going for her fourth straight French Open title, trying to break the record she shares with Monica Seles. Find out if Jimmy Boyd thinks the little Belgian can do it again as he weighs the field in his 2008 French Open predictions.

The Favorite: Henin is the odds on favorite in the French and she should be. She has won three consecutive French Open titles and four of the last five. The Belgian has won 41 WTA singles titles in her career and seven Grand Slams to solidify her as one of the all-time greats. So in case you haven’t already figured it out by these stats, Henin is the world number one that all the other competitors will be gunning for. Unlike other tennis players, like John McEnroe, Andy Roddick, or Serena Williams, who often let their emotions get the best of them, Henin is considered the Tiger Woods of tennis in that her mental makeup is unmatched. She also thrives because her technique is flawless from her footwork to her swing. She is considered to have on of the best backhands in the world.

The Longshot: It usually takes quick players to have a chance on the clay courts of the French, but Williams’ length makes up for it and that’s what makes her a force to be reckoned with in this tournament. The former world number one has no lack of experience in major tournaments where she has six singles Grand Slams and 14 total Grand Slam wins. Her powerful serve could also be a major factor. Her height allows her to swing down on the ball from a higher point than most other players and with the way the ball jumps off the clay, I anticipate her serve giving opponents major problems. Venus Williams is the best value bet in this field by far.

Boyd’s Pick: I like Sharapova here showing solid value as she has been the most consistent womens tennis player since 2004, holding the longest streak of any current player for consecutive weeks ranked in the top ten. She is currently the number three ranked female in the world. While Henin has been dominant on clay, Sharapova has what it takes to beat her this time around. Also, the French Open is the only Grand Slam that Sharapova has not won so she will especially be gunning for it. Earlier this year, in the Australian Open, Sharapova defeated world number one Justine Henin in straight sets to snap her 32-match winning streak. She then went on to win the Australian Open. Another major key is that Sharapova won the Tier II Bausch and Lomb Championship last month in a tune up for the French. It was her first ever clay court title. Having beaten Henin on her way to winning the first Grand Slam of the year and then winning a clay court tournament has Sharapova entering the French with a ton of confidence. Take Sharapova at the French.

Odds to win the 2008 French Open

Justine Henin 3-2 Serena Williams 5-1

Maria Sharapova 7-1

Ana Ivanovic 7-1

Jelena Jankovic 10-1

Venus Williams 12-1

Svetlana Kuznetsova 16-1

Nicole Vaidisova 20-1

Anna Chakvetadze 50-1

Agnieszka Radwanska 50-1

The 2008 French Open is right around the corner as the top pros in the world hit the clay courts of Roland-Garros in Paris, France from May 25 through June 8. The French Open marks the second tennis Grand Slam event of the season and is the premier clay court event of the year. In the first Grand Slam of the season, the Australian Open, Novak Djokovic defeated number one seed Roger Federer to advance to the Finals where he went on to win his first ever Grand Slam and the first ever by a Serbian man. He’ll be looking to repeat in the French, but Federer will be looking for revenge and Rafael Nadal will be waiting as well as he looks to win his fourth straight French Open title. Jimmy Boyd dissects the field and gives you his picks to win in this 2008 French Open predictions article.

Bet Rafael Nadal to win the 2008 French Open at 4-7 odds at BodogLife.com

The Favorite:
As I mentioned above, Nadal has won 3 straight French Open titles. He can match the great Bjorn Borg’s record of four straight titles in the open era with another win. Nadal is a good player, but he excels on the clay surface. He is what’s known as a clay court specialist. He has mastered the slide maneuver that clay courts call for that better grass and hard court players struggle with. He has also figured out how to use the high bounce that clay courts produce to his advantage. Oddsmakers have no choice but to make the price steep for Nadal. He has never lost a match in his three French Open tournaments. That’s a perfect 21-0 record. In just over a two-year span from April 2005 to May 2007, Nadal won a record 81 straight clay court matches before ultimately being beaten by world number one Roger Federer in the 2007 Hamburg Masters. This run solidified him as the best ever on clay courts already in his young career.

The Long Shot: Like Nadal, Juan Carlos Ferrero is a clay court specialist showing extraordinary value at 100/1 odds. He is a former world number one and won the French Open in 2003. He has earned a runner up finish at the French and at the U.S. Open also . The speed that has earned him his nickname the “mosquito” is also the attribute that has helped him become one of the best clay court players in the world. Many quick grass and hard court players often appear slow on the clay court surface. If you’re looking for a long shot, Ferrero is your only choice.

Because Federer has never won the French Open, we can get him with more value than in any other tournament. The thing to remember is that it’s not like the world number one falls apart on clay. He has finished runner up at the French to Nadal in each of the last three years. Before going down in the semis of the Australian Open, Federer had reached 10 consecutive Grand Slam finals, making him the best bet to win any Grand Slam tournament. After being denied at a shot to win the Australian, I expect him to be on top of his game at the French as he goes after the only Slam he has never won. Federer losing in the Australian was the worst possible thing which could have happened for Nadal as now the world number one will be even more focused. Federer was the one to beat Nadal on clay to end the Spaniard’s record clay streak and now I like him to end Nadal’s run at the French.

Odds to win the 2008 French Open

Rafael Nadal 4-7

Roger Federer 9-2

Novak Djokovic 6-1

David Nalbandian 16-1

Nikolay Davydenko 20-1

David Ferrer 25-1

Nicolas Almagro 40-1

Andrew Murray 50-1

Richard Gasquet 80-1

Guillermo Canas 80-1

Juan Carlos Ferrero 100-1

Tommy Robredo 100-1

Igor Andreev 100-1

The 2008 Australian Open tennis odds have been posted for the men’s side and it’s no surprise that Roger Federer is the clear cut favorite to win. One would think that Federer’s reign of terror would end somewhere so is this the year that he doesn’t win three out of the four grand slam title? If you think that he’s going to have to “settle” for only two major victories this year then you would have to think the Australian Open is the place he would lose, because he’s been so dominate at both Wimbledown and the US Open. With that in mind, he has won this tournament for two straight years, and there are probably only one or two players in the world that we think would even have a shot at taking him off the throne.

Marat Safin was the last player to win this tournament other than Federer, taking home the title back in 2005. Before that Andre Agassi won titles here in 2003, 2001, and 2000 with Thomas Johansson winning in 2002. The player with the second best odds to win the Australian Open is Novak Djokovic. He is the no. 3 ranked player in the world and really developed during the past season, even contending with Federer in the finals of the US Open. Djokovic put five ATP titles under his belt last year and went a solid 19-4 in Grand Slam play with losses coming only against Federer and the world’s no. 2 player in Rafael Nadal. He’s got a great chance to win this tournament and we recommend taking him by betting the +650 odds on Djokovic that BetUS is currently offering.

If you are looking for an even bigger underdog then make sure you take a look at the American Andy Roddick. His game has clearly been improving with the help of coach Jimmy Connors and while he doesn’t have much to show for it in the Grand Slams, now is the time. You can bet on Roddick to win the Australian at +2000 at BetUS.

Here are the complete odds to win the 2008 Australian Open:

Roger Federer -200

Novak Djokovic +550

Rafael Nadal +650

David Nalbandian +900

Andrew Murray +2000

Andy Roddick +2000

Nikolay Davydenko +4000

Mario Ancic +4000

Richard Gasquet +4000

Marcos Baghdatis +4000

Lleyton Hewitt +4000

Fernando Gonzalez +3500

Tomas Berdych +6500

James Blake +6500

Tommy Haas +8000

Mikhail Youzhny +10000

David Ferrer +2000

Ivo Karlovic +9000

Guillermo Canas +10000

Ivan Ljubicic +10000

Tommy Robredo +12500

Juan Martin Del Potro +12500

Fernando Verdasco +15000

For those who love to bet on tennis the 2007 Women’s US Open odds have been posted. Tennis seems to be one sport that bettors like to place wagers on the female athletes just as much as they do on the men and for good reason as these are some great athletes who are fun to watch. The field is also a little deeper with the men’s side being dominated by Federer, so you can find a few underdogs and win some bucks on this side of the event. There are going to be quite a few contenders and it should be another great tournament starting on August 27th, but you don’t have to wait until the tournament begins to get in on the action, you can bet on the outright winner today. Of course when the event does get here the wagering doesn’t stop as Bodog will have live head-to-head matchups posted on this page throughout the event. If you want to get in on the action and make watching the tournament even more exciting then signup for one of the sportsbooks we recommend and start making some money with your tennis knowledge.

Maria Sharapova is the defending champion after beating Justine Henin in the finals a year ago, but she comes in as the 5th highest favorite. Venus Williams has played well this summer and always rises to the occassion on American soil. She could be a force to reckon with in this tournament and is showing good value. Her sister Serena always seems to play extremely well in this tournament, so if you want to back an American and one who has value then you need to take one of the Williams sisters. There are a lot of other ladies who have a chance at winning, so place your wagers and good luck at finding who is going to win their way to the final grand slam title.

Justine Henin – 7/4

Serena Williams – 7/2

Amelie Mauresmo – 6/1

Maria Sharapova – 7/1

Venus Williams – 6/1

Jelena Jankovic – 10/1

Ana Ivanovic – 12/1

Nicole Vaidisova – 22/1

Nadia Petrova – 22/1

Svetlana Kuznetsova – 22/1

Daniela Hantuchova – 33/1

Martina Hingis – 50/1

Field (Any Other Player) – 8/1

The 2007 Men’s US Open tennis odds have been posted for all of you who want to get in on the early action. The first matches start on August 27th and the tournament will run for almost two weeks before a winner is decided. If you want to be on the daily matchups then take a look at the odds posted below, but if you want to get in early on who is going to win the tournament outright then we have listed the latest posted odds from Bodog Sportsbook. Bodog is one of the world leader’s in tennis betting and we know that you’ll love their easy deposit and payout methods, easy to use system, and friendly customer service staff.

Roger Federer is once again the favorite to win this final major of the season. He has won the last three US Open’s and has been one of the most dominant forces in tennis history. If you don’t like taking the favorite then we suggest looking at American Andy Roddick. Roddick is the last guy not named Federer to win the tournament, back in 2003 and he lost in four sets a year ago in the finals. Rafael Nadal has had a great year and won the French over Federer, but he has not had much luck in this tournament as of yet. Do your research and make sure you find yourself a winner, then bet it at one of the sportsbooks that we think are the most reliable anywhere.

Roger Federer – 2/5

Rafael Nadal – 4/1

Andy Roddick – 9/1

Novak Djokovic – 12/1

Andrew Murray – 12/1

James Blake – 25/1

Fernando Gonzalez – 25/1

David Nalbandian – 33/1

Guillermo Canas – 28/1

Nikolay Davydenko – 28/1

Richard Gasquet – 33/1

Lleyton Hewitt – 33/1

Marcos Baghdatis – 40/1

Tommy Haas - 40/1

Marat Safin - 40/1

Ivan Ljubicic – 50/1

Tommy Robredo – 50/1

Mikhail Youzhny – 50/1

Tomas Berdych – 70/1

Mario Ancic – 80/1

David Ferrer – 125/1

Carlos Moya – 150/1

Field (Any Other Player) – 12/1

The most illustrious of all the Grand Slams is just days away and now you can get in on the betting with these 2007 Wimbledon odds. Tennis players are now in mid-season form and all of the best players in the world are ready to head to London in order to compete in the All England Lawn Tennis Championships. The players will only have two weeks to prepare for this grass event after having endured the clay court season from April 9th, 2007 through the Roland Garros on June 10th. The courts will be faster, slicker, balls will bounce lower, and the favorites become the serve-and-volley type players like Roger Federer.

The leader on the men’s side of the tournament will be Roger Federer. Federer has won this tournament four times in a row and will be going for his fifth straight title. He is known as the King of grass and will be the player to beat. The sure play will be taking Federer all the way to the final. There is good value though in taking the second-best player in the world. Rafael Nadal is the King of Clay, but made it all the way to the final at Wimbledon a year ago before losing to Federer in four sets.

Andy Roddick could surprise people as the highest-rated American player. He won the Stella Artois last week and is once again being hyped as the challenger to Federer. However, he has been a disappointment too many times for experience bettors to fall for the hype. He made it to the finals in 2004 and 2005, both times losing to Federer. He now has won Artois four times, but is yet to take Wimbledon. Another black mark is his 1-13 career record against Federer.

Bettors will also be taking a look at no. 5 player in the world Novak Djokovic. He made his first-ever semifinal in a Grand Slam at the French Open, and will be a good play at Wimbledon in the early stages. Check his draw towards the final stages of the tournament, if they are favorable he could make another semi.

No. 11 Thomas Berdych isn’t on a lot of peoples radar, but he won the Gerry Weber and could be poised for an upset or two. Lleyton Hewitt may be ranked no. 19 in the world, but he should be good for a couple of wins in the early rounds and Guillermo Canas is our pick as a guy who is poised for an upset or two.

Roger Federer -250

Rafael Nadal +450

Andy Roddick +1000

Novak Djokovic +1200

Lleyton Hewitt +1200

Andrew Murray +2000

Marcos Baghdatis +4000

David Nalbandian +4000

James Blake +5000

Fernando Gonzalez +4000

Richard Gasquet +4000

Ivo Karlovic +5000

Mario Ancic +3300

Marat Safin +6600

Tomas Berdych +5000

Nicolas Mahut +8000

Dmitry Tursunov +10000

Philipp Kohlschreiber +10000

Guillermo Canas +8000

Joachim Johansson +10000

Ivan Ljubicic +8000

Tommy Haas +10000

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga +10000

Mikhail Youzhny +10000

Nikolay Davydenko +8000
