The double main event features a pair of title fights, one in which a champion is looking for revenge, while in the other, one tries to inch his way closer to a superfight. These should be some of the most exciting sports picks of the weekend to make if you’re sports betting online.

UFC 100 odds – Saturday, July 11, 9:00 PM ET

Champion Brock Lesnar (3-1) will try and unify the heavyweight division when he takes on interim champion Frank Mir (12-3), who is the only man to beat Lesnar so far. Lesnar fared very well in their match at UFC 81, using a ground-and-pound strategy against Mir, but his inexperience shone through as he allowed Mir to get him into a kneebar. Mir defeated Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira for the interim title at UFC 92, while Lesnar manhandled Randy Couture at UFC 91, so there is a lot at stake here. Handicapping software has Lesnar as a -225 favorite in this contest, and he should get the win, but Mir has a lot more experience to draw from, as proven by the last fight.

Welterweight champ Georges St. Pierre (18-2) will attempt to extend his winning streak to six when he faces off against Thiago Alves (16-3), who is nicknamed the “Pitbull” because of his aggressive style. GSP defeated B.J. Penn for the second time at UFC 94, and he showed a lot of strength and technique to take Penn to the canvas as much as he did. This means takedown defense will be essential to Alves’ survival, and he showed he was capable of it in a win over Josh Koscheck at UFC 90. Koscheck is a former wrestling champion, but Alves brushed his takedown attempts aside with ease and won the decision handily. GSP is a -300 favorite to defend his title, and if he wins, he could be in line for a superfight against Anderson Silva later this year. But he had better not look past Alves, who has insane knockout power. Look at all the angles before going to your <a

Brock Lesnar" width="300" height="195" class="alignleft size-medium wp-image-2309" />

Get ready UFC fans as the wait is nearly over for UFC 91: Couture vs. Lesnar, as this Saturday the fight will take place live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, and it’s not the only fight on the card that should have fans at the edge of their seat. While many of you watching this fight know enough about these fighters to make your own opinions of who is going to win, but if you are one of those guys just trying to know what your talking about and maybe make some cash with some UFC betting on this pay-per-view, check out these UFC predictions for the main card this weekend.

Main Event: Randy Couture +110 over Brock Lesnar – It’s likely the UFC odds makers are going against Couture in this one because of his old age (45), but if you look back through the career of Couture this is a fighter that has been the underdog a number of times and came out victorious. Just to name a few there is Chuck Liddell, Tito Ortiz, Tim Sylvia, and Gabriel Gonzaga, all of which Couture came in a big underdog. Now the reason Lesnar gets the slight edge is this guy matches up great with Couture, as he takes away Couture’s great wrestling ability and likely has the edge in speed as well. We like Couture in this one, as he always seems to find a way to expose his opponents weaknesses, and with Lesnar only having 3 fights in his career in the MMA, we take the old man.

Kenny Florian -185 over Joe Stevenson – Florian has really came on strong and has really been a force since joining the UFC including being the winner of 5 straight, which is a task harder to accomplish than one might first think. Stevenson is definitely comes in this one with more experience, and is the younger of the two. Now Stevenson will win this fight if he uses his strength of getting his opponent to the floor and making him tap out. This fight is going to be another fun one to watch, as UFC really put together one great fight card.

Gabriel Gonzaga -350 over Josh Hendricks – Now Gonzaga might be a loser of 2 out of his last 3, but you would be wrong if you think this guy is going to lose this fight. Hendricks hasn’t even fought in the UFC before, and is going to come into the Grand and beat up on a guy like Gonzaga. Gonzaga’s two recent losses have come against Randy Couture and Fabricio Werdum, both excellent proven fighters in the UFC. This one will be entertaining for a short time, as we see Gonzaga putting a end to this one early.

Demian Maia -240 over Nate Quarry – Maia puts his perfect MMA record on the line and his unbeaten 3-0 start to the UFC, and we think this guy is the real deal, and will be a force in this business for the years to come. A win over Quarry who is 36 and a pretty proven fighter, really makes Maia a contender in the UFC. So far for Maia its been the same story each time he has went out, as Maia has used a choke submission to win all 3 of his fights.

Tamdan McCrory +150 over Dustin Hazelett – We like an upset to start the night and end the night, as we really think McCrory is going to prove to be the better fight in this one. McCrory is 11-1 as a MMA fighter, and has a couple wins in the UFC as well. It won’t be easy for McCrory, as Hazelett is a fighter that just doesn’t know how to give up, as he will fight as long as he possibly can before giving up. He has been knocked out before, actually earlier this year against Josh Koscheck, and we think McCrory lands the right punch and walks away with the win.

Get more <a

Now, he continues his UFC 88 fight previews by taking a closer look at the Dan Henderson vs. Rousimar Palhares main card bout. This fight pits one of the UFC’s most well-known fighters against one of its most up and coming. Will we see experience or youth prevail at UFC 88? Jimmy Boyd goes inside the matchup and delivers his Henderson/Palhares predictions.

Dan Henderson: -200 to win at BetUS Sportsbook

Dan “Hollywood” Henderson or “Dangerous Dan” or Hendo – just the amount of nicknames alone shows you that this guy has been around for a while, will try to get back on track in this September 6th fight after losing his two previous matchups with Quinton Jackson and Anderson Silva respectively. Hendo was supposed to be the guy to knock, the seemingly invincible UFC middleweight champ, Anderson Silva off track, and he appeared to be well on his way to doing so with a dominant performance in the first round. However, Silva caught Hendo in the second period with a rear naked choke. That marked the first time the former Pride FC dual champion had tapped out since 2005. And now Dan Henderson will stay in the middleweight division to take on Brazilian Top Team fighter Rousimar Palhares. In the past we have seen the UFC give top fighters breezers to get back on their feet, but that doesn’t appear to be the case hear and the odds reflect it.

Rousimar Palhares: +160 to win at BetUS Sportsbook

Rousimar Palhares is coming off a win against Ivan Salverry at UFC 84 and will have the benefit of having nothing to lose on his side. Hendo should feel much more pressure as he faces defeat for a third straight time. If Palheres can pull off the upset, it would be the first time in Dan Henderson’s career that he has lost three straight. Many experts also feel that the 185-pound class is not Henderson’s best division. Perhaps his last two fights point that out. He made it a little over a period against Anderson Silva in a 185-pound fight but lasted 25 minutes with Quinton Jackson in a 205-pound matchup. Palhares is known for his Brazilian jiu-jitsu submissions just like Silva and this is the kind of fight which could really put him on the map.

Prediction: Take Henderson

This is a big fight for both fighters for different reasons. While Henderson may have slight disadvantages not fighting in his preferred weight class and going up against another submission specialist, the fact remains that Palhares has never seen a fighter with Henderson’s chops. Hendo is not about to go down for a third straight time to a relatively unknown fighter. The pressure will be on, but I like Hollywood to rise to the challenge. He’ll learn from his match with Silva and tighten his submission defense. I actually like Hendo’s Wrestling background to play to his favor here. Once he gets Palhares down, I don’t see him letting him up until Palhares taps out.

Chuck Liddell vs. Rashad Evans main event will get the most publicity in the UFC 88 lineup, the Rich Franklin vs. Matt Hamill bout should not be overlooked. Franklin is one of the bigger names in the UFC and comes in as the -240 favorite at BetUS Sportsbook. Hamill is a UFC newcomer, but has already gained plenty of fan support through watching him on the third season of The Ultimate Fighter reality series. Jimmy Boyd dissects the upcoming September 6th fight in this Franklin/Hamill predictions article.

Rich Franklin: -240 to win at BetUS Sportsbook

It’s not surprising that Franklin is the favorite to win this fight since he has much more experience than Hamill. Franklin has a professional record of 23-3 and has a UFC mark of 10-2. Oddsmakers appear to be showing some doubt here as the former middleweight champ is moving up to fight in the 205-pound weight division following a pair of 185-pound losses to current title holder Anderson Silva. Franklin has fought in the 205 weight class before though. He did so on The Ultimate Fighter I finale, but that was back in 2005. Franklin is considered among the best 185-pound fighters in the world, but he just hasn’t been able to defeat “The Spider”. Outside of those losses to Silva, Franklin is 11-0 with 10 stoppages in his last 11 fights. His most recent TKO came at UFC 83 against Travis Lutter in the second round. While I’m not sure how I feel about his move to a higher weight class, it does open up some more fight opportunities for him. And it appears to be a business move as fan demand for a third fight with Silva is low.

Matt Hamill: +190 to win at BetUS Sportsbook

Hamill is 4-1 in his young UFC career and will be trying to earn Cincinnati bragging rights as both fighters claim the Cincy area as home. Hamill was forced out of the third season of The Ultimate Fighter due to injury, but has since recovered to become one of the UFC’s brightest young stars. Hamill is a very large and aggressive light heavyweight with very good wrestling skills and improving stand up ability. He demonstrated his stand up improvements most recently with a TKO victory over Tim Boetsch at UFC Fight Night 13. Those who like Hamill here no doubt like the fact that he is a more physically imposing.

Prediction: Take Franklin

I don’t read as much into this weight class change for Franklin as most. While he has competed in the 185-pound class for a while, he has proven that he can do damage in the 205-pound class as well. Franklin is considered big for his division anyway. In 2005, he defeated Ken Shamrock at the 205-pound weight class. That win earned him a middleweight title shot against Evan Tanner, which he won. Whether 185 or 205, Franklin is one of the top fighters in the world, and I don’t think Hamill is ready for a guy of his caliber quite yet.

-280 to win at BetUS

This fight has been long overdue as far as UFC fanatics are concerned. Liddell was originally slated to face off against Evans in UFC 85, but now their inevitable showdown will happen in UFC 88. Liddell has not fought since a stunning win over Wanderlei Silva at UFC 79 and now he will face the undefeated Rashad Evans. The former UFC light heavyweight champ lost his 205-pound title to Quinton Jackson and then lost to Keith Jardine in back-to-back bouts. The Iceman has won eight of his last 10 fights and he would like nothing more than to continue his quest toward regaining the light heavyweight title by ending Evans’ unbeaten streak. The UFC legend has a career mark of 21-5 and will no doubt be the fan favorite. We expect many biased bettors to take Liddell in the chalk role.

Rashad Evans: +210 to win at BetUS.com

Evans won the Ultimate Fighter 2 heavyweight tournament by defeating Brad Imes in the finale. He has since dropped down to the 205-pound weight class and defeated the likes of Sam Hoger, Stephen Bonnar, Jason Lambert, and Sean Salmon on his way to a 13-0-1 professional record. Evans did lose on the scorecard to former UFC champ Tito Ortiz, but he earned a draw when Ortiz was handed a point deduction, for grabbing the fence, to maintain his unbeaten mark. Evans’ last fight was a win via unanimous decision against The Ultimate Fighter 3 winner Michael Bisping at UFC 78. Evans has all the motivation to win here as it will catapult him to the top of the 205-pound rankings and you can get him at a nice price.

Prediction:

Liddell has definitely fried bigger fish than Evans in his decorated career. The most significant here is Tito Ortiz, who The Iceman has beaten twice via KO and TKO respectively. Tito Ortiz is not the fighter he was when Liddell crushed him and Ortiz was able to beat Evans (without the deduction) more recently. I don’t read much into Liddell’s last two losses as Quinton Jackson has had his number, and Keith Jardine’s win was about as much of a fluke as you’ll ever see in this sport. Also, the fact that Liddell bounced back to beat Silva via unanimous decision tells me he has put those defeats behind him. Evans’ best shot is to take Liddell down, but The Iceman is noted for his exceptional takedown defense. Liddell will make this a foot war and he will then hold the strong advantage. Liddell is not ready to start on the decline, expect him to beat Evans here to make another run at the light heavyweight title.

<a

On Saturday July, 19th from the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, Fedor Emelianenko takes on Tim Sylvia in what figures to be one of the best heavyweight matchups of the summer. There are those who feel Emelianenko is the king of the heavyweight division and there are those that think he’s one of the most overrated fighters in MMA history. Oddsmakers have him listed as the -450 favorite at BodogLife.com sportsbook, but make sure you read Jimmy Boyd’s Fedor/Sylvia predictions before laying any chalk.

Bet the Favorite Fedor Emelianenko at -450 at BodogLife.com

If your MMA viewing experience is limited to just the UFC, then you might be saying who the hell is Fedor Emelianenko? I’ll tell you. Holding a 27-1 record, Emelianenko is widely regarded as one of the top heavyweight MMA fighters on the planet. He has stood at the top of most heavyweight rankings for his tenure as PRIDE’s heavyweight champ since March of 2003.

But Emelianenko’s place in the polls is not without a little bit of controversy. Some will claim that years of fighting inferior opponents weakens his standing and others say that the lack of success of former PRIDE standouts such as Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic should be considered. Those that hold these opinions also take the stance that the UFC has better talent.

Even the sole blemish on Emelianenko’s otherwise flawless record is controversial. But it is so in a way that suggests he should still be undefeated. He was beaten back in 2000 with an illegal elbow strike in a RINGS tournament. Normally illegal actions hand the guilty party a loss via DQ or the fight gets chalked up as a no contest. Because this was a tournament and Emelianenko could not continue, Japan’s Tsuyoshi Kahsaka was declared the winner.

Emelianenko’s Russian Sambo style, which includes striking and grappling is the perfect form for modern MMA.

Bet the Underdog Tim Sylvia at +300 at BodogLife.com

Tim Sylvia is a two-time UFC Heavyweight champion and an imposing figure standing 6′8”. Sylvia was the elite UFC heavyweight until Randy Couture defeated him at UFC 68. Sylvia takes full advantage of his lengthy frame, utilizing his reach with a vicious jab. His wrestling and grappling background are utilized more for defense than offense.

The Maine-iac holds a professional record of 24 wins against just four losses. 16 of his wins have come by knockout while he has never been knocked out. Sylvia’s powerful right hand blows are something Emelianenko will have to watch out for.

Prediction

Both of these fighters have already fought their best fights, but I feel Emelianenko has the distinct advantage here. Emelianenko’s primary strengths are Sylvia’s greatest weaknesses. First and foremost, Sylvia has had difficulty with strong wrestlers and grapplers. His long legs make him an easy target for takedown artists. Sylvia is a worthy opponent and should be a great measuring stick for where Emelianenko should be considered in terms of the world rankings, but I don’t see any circumstance where this one ends well for Sylvia who has been susceptible to submission techniques. It’s also important to note that Emelianenko has two wins over Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira who most recently submitted Sylvia.

If you are going to do any <a

But if it’s scheduled, Jimmy Boyd is ready to go to work handicapping it. The heavyweight bout pits former WWE star Brock Lesnar against Hall of Famer Mark “The Hammer” Coleman. This fight takes on an interesting dynamic with both fighters heavily experienced in wrestling. The 43-year-old Coleman has enjoyed a great career, but many feel he is on his last leg. Lesnar still has plenty of good fights left in him but was defeated in his UFC debut by another former UFC heavyweight champ Frank Mir via submission. Will another vet add to Lesnar’s tough UFC start or will this be the start of a great MMA career for the imposing Lesnar? Jimmy Boyd weighs the odds and the fighters and delivers his Lesnar-Coleman predictions right here.

The Favorite: Brock Lesnar

Many fighters with solid wrestling backgrounds have excelled in the UFC. Lesnar’s opponent, Mark Coleman, is one of them. After being submitted in his first ever UFC match, you can bet that Lesnar will be ready to have his revenge. Lesnar’s WWE success speaks more of his acting ability than his fighting ability, but we can’t forget that he was the 2000 NCAA wrestling champion. He returned to the mat in 2005 and wasted no time making his mark by winning the IWGP Heavyweight Title in the New Japan Pro Wrestling league. Lesnar did have one MMA fight prior to Mir in which he won, but that fight made it clear that he still has a ways to go before being a legit heavyweight contender.

The Underdog: Mark Coleman

Coleman is also a former NCAA wrestling champion and a former UFC Heavyweight Champ. He also conquered the PRIDE 2000 Grand Prix title when he left the UFC. Coleman is actually a more accomplished wrestler than Lesnar, having placed seventh in the 1992 Olympic Games. The 43-year-old Coleman is just 4-4 in his last eight fights, but he believes he has one more good fight left in him. Coleman does not lack any confidence either, going as far as to say that he would match up well with current UFC Heavyweight Champion Randy Couture. He’ll be looking to cap off a Hall of Fame career with a big upset win.

Prediction:

Hall of Famers aren’t supposed to still be fighting, especially when they are 43 years of age and haven’t fought since 2006. The UFC has obviously thought this fight out well. After Lesnar was submitted by Mir, they decided to pair him with someone who has the same skillset – wrestling. Coleman does not have much of a standup game or submission game at this stage of his career. Oh yeah, and he’s well past his prime. Lesnar will pretty much just be able to wrestle him, and at 13 years his junior has a lot more power. I’m not expecting much of a technical fight. I just expect Lesnar to out muscle the Hall of Famer to win his first UFC fight.

Lesnar/Coleman UFC 87 Odds at BodogLife.com

Brock Lesnar -295
Mark Coleman +235

If you want to beat the <a

And I promise that this event will provide the most fireworks on Independence Day weekend. This UFC event isn’t subtitled anything cute because it simply highlights the fight that everyone is waiting for with baited breath. Jimmy Boyd previews this Light Heavyweight Championship bout and lets you in on the other projected matchups on the main and preliminary cards in this UFC 86 odds article.

Light Heavyweight Champion Quniton “Rampage” Jackson puts his title belt on the line against the first ever winner of The Ultimate Fighter reality show, Forrest Griffin. Griffin has come full circle in that now he is a coach on season 7 of The Ultimate Fighter reality series with Jackson.

Jackson has taken the MMA world by storm by beating Chuck Liddell for the UFC Light Heavyweight crown and then defeating Pride champion Dan Henderson to unify the belts, making him the undisputed light heavyweight champion of the world. He brings a 28-6 professional mark into this fight, but those lofty numbers don’t even do this guy justice. Since coming onto the UFC scene in February of 2007, Jackson took out Marvin Eastman and then crushed Chuck Liddell three months later via first round knockout. Jackson is known for his raw power displayed in his aggressive slams and striking ability. These are among the things that has BetUS UFC odds makers listing him as the -260 favorite.

Forrest Griffin is the top 205-pound contender with a 15-4 professional mark and he wants nothing more to go from The Ultimate Fighter champion to UFC Light Heavyweight champion. Griffin is a fighter who can win a number of ways. It’s his aggressive nature and heart of a lion that have gotten him to this point. Griffin has never backed down from a challenge, facing the likes of Tito Ortiz, Stephan Bonnar, Elvis Sinosic, Keith Jardine, and Hector Ramirez. He really got the attention of the MMA world when he submitted Mauricio “Shogun” Rua at UFC 76. Griffin’s submission techniques are something Jackson will definitely have to look out for.

Griffin has nothing but respect for Jackson so I don’t expect over confidence to be an issue in the least. I think we all should get ready for two prepared fighters who only care about winning to lead a great UFC 86 card.

Other main card bouts will be between middleweights Patrick Cote and Ricardo Almeida, lightweights Joe Stevenson and Gleison Tibau, and welterweights Josh Koscheck and Chris Lytle. On the preliminary card we will see three lightweight bouts between Jorge Gurgel and Cole Miller, Melvin Guillard and Dennis Siver, and Corey Hill and Justin Buchholz, and two welterweight bouts between Chris Wilson and Steve Bruno and Neb Saunders and Jared Rollins.

UFC 86 – Light Heavyweight Championship Odds at BodogLife

Quinton Jackson -260
Forrest Griffin +200

Hopefully the <a

We are in for a real treat with 13 scheduled fights making it one of the largest cards UFC fans have ever seen. While Chuck Liddell fanatics will not see him fight as he was forced to withdraw with a hamstring injury, the Matt Hughes vs. Thiago Alves main event is a more than adequate substitute. Jimmy Boyd provides the UFC 85 odds in this preview and highlights the action for you rabid mixed martial arts fanatics.

Legend of the welterweight division, Matt Hughes, needs no introduction. When he faces off with Thiago Alves on June 7th, he’ll be gunning for his third 170-pound crown in the UFC. Even with Liddell bowing out, fans will get there money’s worth when top ten ranked contender Thiago “Pitbull” Alves and the two-time former UFC World Champion Matt Hughes tango across the ocean. Alves heads into this one off five straight wins and his Muay Thai style just might be the answer to foiling Hughes’ power wrestling maneuvers. But Hughes has not won 43 of his 49 professional fights by accident. With big wins over St-Pierre, BJ Penn, Sean Sherk, Frank Trigg, and Royce Gracie, no opponent is too much for him to overcome. For more check out our Hughes Alves predictions article.

This card is no one fight wonder either. With 13 action packed bouts, fans will be on the edge of their seats all night long. UK superstar Michael “The Count” Bisping will get to throw down in his home land against Chris “The Crippler” Leben and “Sugar” Rashad Evans will step up to the plate against the knockout king, James “The Sandman” Irvin.

Bisping rose to stardom on season three of The Ultimate Fighter when he won the competition. Winning that competition has proven to be no fluke as “The Count” has gotten off to a fast 16-1 professional start. He has won five of six UFC bouts and dropping down to the middleweight division should make him an even bigger force to be dealt with. “The Crippler” has crippled 18 of his 22 opponents in his professional career and will be looking to add another one to the list here. Leben knows only one speed and has brick hands that throw plenty of haymakers. In other words, you can’t ease into a fight against him because he is ready to go from the first bell.

Rashard Evans is undefeated through 17 pro bouts with 16 wins and a draw. He is one of the more versatile competitors you’ll see, using wrestling and standup maneuvers, combined with great athleticism and sheer determination, to crush his opponents. Irvin is known as the hardest hitter in the light heavyweight division. If you relax for one instant, you can find yourself on your back staring up at the lights. He ended Houston Alexander in just eight seconds back on April 2nd.

Jimmy Boyd is your one and only option for <a

Machida is unbeaten in 12 professional fights, but if anyone can hand him his first loss, it’s “The Huntington Beach Bad Boy”. Find out who Jimmy Boyd likes to win this super light heavyweight fight in his Machida – Ortiz predictions article.

Former UFC light heavyweight champion, Tito Ortiz, is one of the biggest names in the sport. His brute strength, intensity, and ground and pound attack have taken him to an elite status in the MMA community. Ortiz comes in to this fight as a winner of five of his last seven bouts. Those two blemishes are a loss to Chuck Liddell and a draw to Rashad Evans. Ortiz has defeated Forrest Griffin, Patrick Cote, Vitor Belfort, and Ken Shamrock over the last three years, and he’s ready to add “The Dragon” to that list.

Ortiz has acted in public as if Machida isn’t worth any of the hype, saying that he isn’t even worth talking about. Ortiz said he’s going to crush him and then move on as if this is just another fight.

The undefeated Machida will gladly welcome Ortiz to reality by handing him his sixth career loss. Machida has been successful because he doesn’t make mistakes and because he always makes his strikes count. He is known as one of the most technical and powerful strikers in the sport. No one who has beaten BJ Penn can be considered a nobody, plain and simple. This fight is vitally important to Machida as a win puts him in top contention to challenge for the 205 pound title.

Machida had good things to say about Ortiz, stating that he is honored to fight one of the biggest names in the sport, but then he subtly stated that there is no way he’ll let this go to a decision. “I’m going to finish him in this fight.” Machida said.

Prediction: Machida

In many ways, this fight is youth versus experience, a passing of the torch if you will. But the problem is that Ortiz is not ready to pass it to a fighter who he is yet to have any respect for. Ortiz has fried much bigger fish and jumped into much larger oceans than the young Machida in his career and that experience has to give him some sort of an edge. However, while Ortiz is still a major force in the light heavyweight division of the UFC, he is not the invincible young talent that he once was. Machida has the confidence that comes along with a 12-0 record and knows that a win here gets him that title shot. No slouch can beat a BJ Penn the way Machida did and my gut instinct tells me that Ortiz is not taking Machida as seriously as he should be. I’ll play favorites here and take the -200 favorite Machida to beat the great Tito Ortiz to earn his thirteenth straight victory.

Jimmy Boyd wants you to win with your <a
