Chargers Broncos Odds

Written by Jimmy Boyd

The favorites to win the AFC West did not think they’d be entering divisional play winless this season, but that is the case following a shocking loss to the Carolina Panthers at home in week 1. They will be looking for revenge against a Denver Broncos team which crushed the Raiders on Monday Night Football. JustBet odds makers have listed the home Broncos as a 1-point home underdog for this contest. Jimmy Boyd’s Chargers/Broncos preview takes a look at the matchup from a NFL betting perspective. If you are looking for a guaranteed ATS winner in this matchup, then make sure you’re playing Jimmy’s AFC West Game of the Month in his week 2 NFL picks slate.

These two division rivals face off for the first time since a chippy game last Christmas Eve. It appeared to be a rather meaningless game with the Chargers on their way to clinching the No. 3 spot in the AFC playoff picture and the Broncos moving closer to their first losing season since 1999. San Diego won the contest 23-3 at home, but not without a little animosity first.

Early in the first quarter, Broncos safety John Lynch chucked running back LaDainian Tomlinson’s helmet about 10 yards after it popped off following a collision on the play. This incident seemed to spur on the next. Rivers went out onto the field in the fourth quarter and taunted Broncos QB Jay Cutler after a failed fourth-down pass.

The Broncos appear to have more than trash talk to worry about as San Diego has been mopping up the floor with them.

The Chargers swept both meetings last season, also winning 41-3 on the road last October. Rivers has been sensational in this matchup by throwing seven touchdown passes while winning all four of his starts against them.

The Chargers will have to win without start defensive player Shawne Merriman, who elected to undergo season ending knee surgery after trying to play last week. Merriman has a league-high 39.5 sacks over the last three seasons and has played in three straight Pro Bowls.

The Chargers rallied from a nine point deficit last week to take a 24-19 lead with just over two minutes remaining against the Panthers, but Jake Delhomme delivered a 14-yard touchdown strike as time expired to give Carolina the thrilling win. Prior to that game, the Chargers had only lost one of their previous 16 regular season home games. If you think San Diego will continue its dominance over Denver, bet the Chargers at Bookmaker and receive a 20% cash sign up bonus.

Denver season opener went a whole lot better, rolling the Raiders 41-14 on Monday night. The combination of Cutler to wide receiver Eddie Royals was a dangerous one. Cutler threw for 299 yards and two touchdowns while Royals was on the receiving end of nine of those passes for 146 yards and a score. It was the best performance by a Broncos receiver since 1975. Both players will need to be every bit as effective this week if they hope to end a two game home winless streak against San Diego.

San Diego has won two straight in Denver for the first time since the 1967-68 season, but it has never won three in a row on the road against the Broncos. Denver has also won its last eight home openers. If you like Denver to win its ninth straight home opener, you can bet the Broncos at BetUS sportsbook and receive up to a 50% signup bonus.
