Chicago Bears at Minnesota Vikings NFL Predictions & Odds

Written by Jimmy Boyd

The 4-6 Bears visit the 9-1 Minnesota Vikings Sunday afternoon in a Week 12 black and blue division battle. Last week, the Bears fell for the third straight time with a 24-20 loss to the Eagles. Jay Cutler had three different opportunities to hit wide open receivers with clear paths to the end zone, but couldn’t cash any of them in. Meanwhile, Minnesota took care of business the way good teams do, pounding the Seahawks 35-9. The Bears and Vikings last met in Week 13 last season with Minnesota rolling 34-14. The win was Minnesota’s third in the last four meetings and it owns a 51-43-2 lead in the all-time series. NFL odds makers aren’t giving Chicago much of a chance Sunday, listing the Vikings as an 11-point favorite with the total set at 47.

When Bears QB Jay Cutler posts a passer rating of 100 or better his teams are a perfect 13-0. The problem is, he has only had three games with that high of a passer rating for Chicago this season. I haven’t lost faith in Cutler yet. It’s not easy to be at the top of your game in the first season at a new stop. The thing I’m not sure about, though, is if Cutler has lost faith in him self. The confident Cutler that played in Denver last season would not have missed wide open receivers the way he did in last week’s loss to the Eagles. The Pro Bowler leads the league with 18 interceptions this season and has thrown one each of the last two weeks on game-winning drive opportunities. He’ll get a chance to atone for his mistakes this week against Minnesota’s 21st ranked pass defense as helping the Bears earn a win would go a long way toward putting him back in the good graces of Chicago fans. But in order for him to do so, the Chicago offensive line is going to have to keep the Vikings out of the backfield as Minnesota leads the NFL with 36 sacks. They’ll have a better chance of doing so if they can open some holes for running back Matt Forte to keep the Vikings honest. Forte is the only player in the NFL with 1,750-plus rushing yards and 850-plus receiving yards since the beginning of last season. It is worth noting that the Bears are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games as a road underdog of 10.5 or more points. If you like Chicago to keep this one close, bet the Bears at +11 at Bodog.

You have to like Minnesota’s chances, and the odds makers certainly do, when you consider that they have a couple Bear killers on the roster. Vikings QB Brett Favre is 22-10 in his career against the Bears and defensive end Jared Allen has two or more sacks in each of his last two games against Chicago.

What Favre is doing at age 40 in his 19th NFL season is nothing short of incredible. He is tied for second in the NFL with 21 touchdown strikes and the all-time interceptions leader has only thrown three picks this season. Favre could be tested this week against Chicago’s eight ranked pass defense, but he has met nearly every challenge so far this season. It is worth noting that the home team is 7-2 ATS in the last 9 meetings in this head-to-head matchup. If you like Minnesota to win by 12 or more points for the fourth straight week, bet the Vikings at -11 at Bodog.

Jimmy Boyd took the books to school to the tune of 5-2 in Week 11 NFL action, highlighted by his 5* AFC Game of the Year winner on the Raiders. Make sure you’re on board in Week 12 for more winning football picks on the pro gridiron!
