Kansas City Chiefs at Denver Broncos Line

Written by Jimmy Boyd on December 29, 2011

The Denver Broncos (8-7) will be playing for a division title when they host the Kansas City Chiefs (6-9) Sunday.

The Broncos are currently listed as a three-point favorite with the total set at 37.

Denver looked as if it might cruise into the playoffs when it won six in a row from from Nov. 6-Dec. 11, but back-to-back defeats, including a 40-14 loss to the Buffalo Bills last week, have kept it from clinching.

Despite consecutive losses, the Broncos can still win the AFC West and clinch the No. 4 seed in the AFC playoffs with a win or a loss by the Oakland Raiders.

Tim Tebow had a forgettable performance in last week’s defeat. He completed just 13 of 30 pass attempts for 185 yards with one touchdown and four interceptions and ran for a score as well.

Demaryius Thomas led the team with four catches and 76 receiving yards, and Daniel Fells hauled in Tebow’s lone touchdown pass.

Willis McGahee led the way on the ground with 64 of the team’s 133 rushing yards.

The Chiefs weren’t able to build on their upset victory over the Green Bay Packers, falling 16-13 in overtime to the Oakland Raiders.

Kyle Orton connected on 21 of 36 throws for 300 yards and a touchdown but was picked off twice. Five passes found the hands of Dexter McCluster, who led the team with 89 receiving yards.

Orton’s touchdown strike went to Dwayne Bowe, who led the team with six receptions for 80 yards.

Jackie Battle headed up the ground attack with 56 of the team’s 135 rushing yards.

The Broncos have won four of the last six in this series with the most recent being a 17-10 victory in Kansas City on Nov. 13.

Going back to 1992, the Broncos have won 14 of 19 home games in this series. Their home field, however, hasn’t treated them all that well in 2011.

Denver is 3-4 straight up and 1-5 against the spread in home games this season.

It is worth noting that the road team has covered the spread in five of the last six meetings, and the underdog has covered the number in each of the last four.

In regard to the total, the over has been the play in this series for a long time. These two have finished over the number in 14 of the last 20 matchups.
