Kansas City Chiefs at New York Jets NFL Week 8 Predictions & Picks

Brett Favre will make his 260th consecutive start when the New York Jets take on the Kansas City Chiefs this Sunday. Hopefully it will be better than his 259th when the Jets went down in overtime to Oakland last week. Odds makers are confident that it will and have listed the Jets as 13.5-point favorites with the total set at 39.
Favre is coming off of his worst performance of the season. He was 21 of 38 through the air for 197 yards and two picks in the loss to the Raiders. Favre does rank third in the league with 13 touchdown passes, but he also ranks second with eight interceptions. Favre has now thrown a pick in five straight games and has been hit up for a pair in each of the past two games.
The Jets passing game could face another wrinkle as wide receiver Laveranues Coles has sustained a concussion and his status for this week’s game in unknown at this time. It would be quite a loss if Coles does not play as he leads the Jets with 30 grabs for 369 yards and four scores.
That could mean that the Jets will reserve even more carries for running back Thomas Jones. Jones recorded his second-best day as a pro last week, rushing for 159 yards on 24 totes. If you think a date with the lowly Chiefs is just what New York needs to get back on track, bet the Jets at -13.5 at Bookmaker.
What the Chiefs knew would be a tough rebuilding year has become even tougher with injuries and off-the-field issues. The Chiefs will go to battle this week with a third-string QB, an inactive starting tailback, and the second worst defense in the NFL.
Kansas City lost their top two QB’s to injury last Sunday and will now send Tyler Thigpen out under center.
It has already been a season to forget for Chiefs QB Brodie Croyle. He endured a shoulder injury in Week 1 against the Patriots, and then in first start since he sustained ACL and MCL injuries last week against the Titans. Backup Damon Huard did not have much better fortune as he injured the thumb on his throwing hand. The Chiefs have place both on the injured reserve list and will go to battle with Thigpen this week.
Thigpen has one other start this season, a 38-14 loss to Atlanta, in which he was 14 of 36 for 128 yards with a touchdown and three interceptions.
Let’s just hope the Chiefs don’t have to put fourth-string QB Ingle Martin on the field, who has never thrown a pass in the NFL.
Unfortunately for Thigpen, he will not have All-Pro tailback Larry Johnson in the backfield to hand off to. Johnson was deactivated for the second straight week. Kansas City police are investigating a nightclub incident involving Johnson.
Backup Kolby Smith saw most of the carries last week, but gained only 20 yards on 10 totes against a solid Titans defense.
While the offense has struggled to find any kind of cohesion amidst injuries and drama, it’s not like the defense can say it is doing its part. The Chiefs have the only AFC defense allowing more than 400 total yards per game. Kansas City has also yielded exactly 34 points per contest in losing its last two games. While it does not look good for the Chiefs this week, they are getting a nice number from odds makers. If you think the Jets are being overvalued this week, bet the Chiefs at +13.5 at Bookmaker and receive a 20% cash sign up bonus.
