Kansas City Chiefs at New York Jets Odds

Written by Jimmy Boyd on December 6, 2011

The New York Jets (7-5) will be looking for a third straight win when they host the Kansas City Chiefs (5-7) Sunday.

The Jets are currently a nine-point favorite with the total set at 36.5.

New York is coming off a 34-19 road win over the Washington Redskins. The score was tied at 13 entering the fourth quarter before the Jets exploded for 21 points in the final frame.

Mark Sanchez connected on 19 of 32 pass attempts for 165 yards with a touchdown and no interceptions. Four of his completions, including the touchdown toss, went to Santonio Holmes, who led the team with 58 receiving yards.

Shonn Greene led the way on the ground with 88 yards and three touchdowns on 22 carries.

The Chiefs enter Week 14 off a 10-3 road win over the Chicago Bears.  The victory snapped a four-game losing streak.

Tyler Palko completed 17 of 30 throws for 157 yards and a Hail Mary touchdown, which ended up being the difference in the game.

Dexter McCluster hauled in Palko’s desperation heave before the half and finished with four catches for 46 yards. He also led the team in rushing with 61 yards on nine carries.

Kansas City’s offense has struggled since starting quarterback Matt Cassel went down with a season-ending injury, and the struggles are likely to continue Sunday against the Jets’ seventh-ranked defense, which allows 317.5 yards per game. This means Kansas City’s defense must rise to the occasion again.

The Chiefs held the Pittsburgh Steelers 13 points and 290 yards in a four-point defeat in Week 12 before holding the Bears to three points and 181 yards.

The defense has also forced five turnovers the last two weeks after forcing only one in the previous three games.

Kansas City’s main task is to slow down New York’s running game. The Jets only rank 24th in the league with 100.4 rushing yards per game but are 6-1 this season when rushing for more than 100 yards.

The Chiefs held the Bears to 93 rushing yards last week, but stopping the run has been an issue throughout the season. The Chiefs are 25th in the NFL with 130.3 rushing yards allowed per contest.

These two have split the last four in the series with the Jets winning the most recent matchup 28-24 at home on Oct. 26, 2008. The Chiefs have covered the number in each of these four games and just might be the play again Sunday. After all, they are 7-1 against the spread in their last eight games as an underdog.

As far as the total is concerned, the under just might be the play. The Chiefs have come in under the number in each of their last seven games.
