Cincinnati at Hawaii Football Odds & Betting Line

Written by Steve Janus

Regular season Big East Champs, the Cincinnati Bearcats, play their last game before a potential BCS Bowl game in sunny Hawaii as they battle the University of Hawaii Rainbow Warriors in non-conference action.  Hawaii is already locked into the Hawaii Bowl for their post season game while Cincinnati is set up to play in the Orange Bowl or Sugar Bowl.  The game won’t really hurt or help either team tremendously, but in college football momentum can be incredibly important, so naturally both teams want to put in their best effort.  Cincinnati is favored by 7.5 points over Hawaii and the total is set at 49.5 points.

Cincinnati has been a model of consistency on offense this season.  They’ve averaged just over 27 points per game and are doing a solid job moving the ball down the field.  They are putting up 380 yards per game, and though the running game has been a bit slow, with just 120 yards per game, but the they’ve made up for it with a very solid passing game that churns out 260 yards per game.  What’s impressive is that they’ve done it against some pretty solid defensive squads.

On defense the Bearcats have been very good all season, especially against the run.  They are racking up 315 yards per game, but only 109 of those yards come on the ground.  On the season overall, Cincy gives up just 19.8 points per game.  There defense is a big reason why they’ve been successful this year.  This week they face a Hawaii team that has only had moderate success on the offensive side of the ball.  Cincinnati gets a ton of respect as 7.5 point favorites in Hawaii.

This year’s Rainbow Warrior offense is a far cry from the Flyin’ Hawaiians of last season, but they have still been productive.  The Warriors put up 25 points per game on 347 yards of total offense.  The running game hasn’t been very productive, with just 104 yards per game, but they make up for it in the passing game for the most part.  Hawaii plays particularly well at home on offense, so expect them to be on their “A” game against the Bearcats this week.

Defensively, Hawaii hasn’t been been great on the whole, but they are a much different team, especially on defense when they play at home.  On the Island, the Warriors are holding opponents to 18 points per game and an impressive 284 total yards per game.  This week they’ll face a Cincinnati offense that has been extremely effective all year.  Luckily for them, they’ll get to face the Bearcats on their home turf.  The Warriors are 7.5 point underdogs at home this week.

Cincinnati has had tremendous success this season, but they are on dangerous turf playing far away from home against a Hawaii team that defends their home field extremely well.  Both teams would love to score a victory in this situation, but odds makers are giving Cincinnati a lot of respect by making them a 7.5 point favorite on the road.  Tough call either way on this one, but the Bearcats have been the better team from top to bottom this year.
