Cleveland Browns at Baltimore Ravens NFL Betting Lines & Picks
The Cleveland Browns head to M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore this Sunday to take on the Ravens in an AFC clash. The Browns fell to 0-2 after an embarrassing 27-6 loss to the Broncos while the Ravens improved to 2-0 with a 31-26 victory over the Chargers last week. These teams last met in Week 9 a season ago with the Ravens coming out on top 37-27 thanks to a 154-yard day on the ground from Ray Rice. The win marked Baltimore’s fourth in the past six meetings to improve its all-time series lead to 13-7. NFL lines makers are expecting Baltimore to post another double digit win over the Browns, listing the Ravens as a 13-point favorite with the total set at 38.5.

The Ravens enter this week’s matchup having won eight of their last 10 home games and much of that success can be credited to putting one of the best defenses in the NFL on the field. Following the 2008 season, it looked like there was a decent chance that linebacker Ray Lewis could end up elsewhere via free agency, but Lewis and the team were able to work out a deal that would keep him in Baltimore and so far it is paying off. Lewis has not lost a step, remaining the leader the of the defense. We saw just how valuable he is to this team first hand last week when he was able to stop San Diego’s Darren Sproles in his tracks on a critical fourth-and-two to seal the deal on a Ravens victory. Lewis leads the Ravens in tackles with 18 through two games and is a big part of why the Ravens boast the NFL’s top-ranked rushing defense, allowing only 41 yards per game. If you think Baltimore’s defense will shut down the Browns this week, bet the Ravens at -13 at BetUS.
If the Browns want to turn this season around, they are going to need big improvement from quarterback Brady Quinn. Quinn has struggled through the first two weeks and faces an even stiffer task in Week 3 against the powerful Ravens defense. But Quinn should not get all the blame as his offensive line needs to step up their game as well. Pro Bowl tackle Joe Thomas and company allowed four sacks to Denver’s Elvis Dumervil last week. Plus, wide receiver Braylon Edwards, who was such a big play guy for this team in 2007 when they won 10 games, is yet to make a significant impact. But, playing the Ravens has brought out the best in Edwards, as he has four touchdown grabs in six career games against them. Running back Jamal Lewis hasn’t made much noise either. Perhaps he will run with some fire against his former team this week.
So far, head coach Eric Mangini has not been able to do what he did in his first season with the Jets. He comes from the Bill Belichick school which preaches no turnovers, but his team has a minus-four ratio through the first two weeks. If they quit beating themselves, the Browns might be able to win a football game. If you think odds makers are spotting Cleveland too many points, bet the Browns at +13 at BetUS.
