Cleveland Browns at Denver Broncos NFL Spread & Picks
The Cleveland Browns head to the Mile High City to take on the Denver Broncos at Invesco Field this Sunday in a Week 2 AFC battle. Neither team impressed in Week 1, but the Broncos enter in better shape thanks to an 87-yard miracle touchdown by Brandon Stokley to get them the win over Cincinnati. The Browns were gashed for 180 yards by Adrian Peterson on their way to a 34-20 loss to the Vikings. These teams last met in Week 10 of last season with The Broncos winning a 34-30 shootout. That game marked the eighth straight win for the Broncos in this head-to-head and improved them to 20-5 in the all-time series. The Denver Broncos are listed as a 3-point favorite with the total set at 37.5.

The first word that comes to mind after a thrilling win like the Broncos had last week is momentum. When you look at the statistics, the Broncos did not deserve to win last week, but they came out smelling like roses and that is a huge confidence booster for any team, and especially one that dealt with so many offseason issues. Wide receiver Brandon Marshall is the guy I’ll be focusing on when I watch this matchup. Marshall returned to action after being suspended for the final two weeks of the preseason and did not look like a Pro Bowler, catching only four passes for 27 yards. A game like that is an ego bruiser for a player of the caliber of Marshall and I expect him to have a much bigger impact in this Week 2 contest. Defensively, the Broncos looked improved in their opener and I will be interested to see how they show in front of their home fans this week. Here’s a nice little tidbit for you. The Broncos are 17-6 when Champ Bailey has an interception. That just shows you the kind of game changer this guy is for this team. It is worth noting that the Browns are 0-6-1 against the number in their last seven games overall. If you think Cleveland’s winless streak against the spread continues, bet the Broncos at -3 at Bookmaker.
This is a crucial week for Browns QB Brady Quinn in my book. Quinn finished 21 of 35 for 205 yards, one touchdown, and one interception and was also sacked five times. It was a truly mediocre performance. He was named the starter by head man Eric Mangini after a very close battle with Derek Anderson and now he has to prove to his coach that he made the right decision. After all, Anderson is the one who led the Browns to a 10-win season two years ago and he is the one the Browns are paying the big money too. Wide receiver Braylon Edwards had just one catch last week to extend his consecutive games with a catch streak to 59, but the Browns need him to be a much bigger weapon like he was in the 2007 season. It might not be a bad idea to pound running back Jamal Lewis this week too against a rebuilt Denver defense as the Browns are 5-0 when he gets at least 25 totes. If you think Cleveland has what it takes to bounce back on the road, bet the Browns at +3 at Bookmaker.
