The “U” finally has its swagger back under head coach Randy Shannon after suffering through a brief period of disappointment at the end of the Larry Coker era. Junior quarterback Jacory Harris is a Heisman candidate that has made great progress in his time at Miami. He threw for 210 yards and three touchdowns against Florida A&M leading the Canes to a 45-0 romp in the opener. The success Miami can obtain this season literally rides on the right arm of Harris. WR Leonard Hankerson was the favorite target in the passing game, catching six passes for 115 yards and two scores. His big play potential aids the aerial attack of the Hurricanes. Multiple running backs were used in the opener. Lamar Miller received the most opportunity with 11 carries for 65 yards and a touchdown. Damien Berry added 45 yards on six carries. Bruising back Graig Cooper tore his ACL during the off-season and was thought to be lost for the year but carried the ball twice in the opener. He injured his ankle and is expected to miss the Ohio State game.
Terrelle Pryor turned the corner as a quarterback in last year’s Rose Bowl victory and the momentum continued versus Marshall. His passing skills were on full display as he threw for 247 yards and three scores in a 45-7 win. RB Brandon Saine had a fast start to his 2010 season with 103 yards and two touchdowns coming in the first half. Redshirt freshman Jaamal Berry added 80 yards rushing, while Daniel “Boom” Herron gained 44 yards. Dane Sanzenbacher was on the receiving end of a 65 yard touchdown pass and finished with 113 yards on just three catches. DeVier Posey caught two touchdown passes as he forms a dynamic duo with Sanzenbacher on the outside. The Buckeye defense dominated at the line of scrimmage and collected three turnovers in the opener (one returned for a td). Defensive end Nathan Williams is expected to return against Miami and should bolster a front four that some think are not quick enough to keep up with the speed of the Hurricane offense.
Ohio State is without a doubt one of the upper tier teams in the nation this year with 15 returning starters and a top flight quarterback. I think they are being over valued in this position though. Getting over a touchdown in a game that will likely come down to the wire is too much to pass up. Play the Canes in this one and cash that ticket
