Indianapolis Colts at Jacksonville Jaguars Week 15 NFL Picks & Predictions

In recent years, the Colts versus Jaguars AFC South matchup has been the most anticipated matchup in the league. That is not the case this season as many are already looking ahead to the Colts regular season finale with the Tennessee Titans. With a win over Detroit last Sunday, the Colts have now won seven straight games and odds makers don’t anticipate the 5-9 Jags ending Indy’s streak this week. The Colts are 6.5-point favorites with the total set at 45.

Doing your NFL betting on Jacksonville has been a disaster for backers this season. The Jags enter this Week 16 matchup with a 4-10 against the spread record overall, a 1-6 against the spread mark at home, and a 1-4 against the number tally in division play. The good news is that the Jags will have some momentum on their side for the first time in a long time this week. Jacksonville broke a 4-game straight up and against the spread losing streak with a win and a cover at home against the Green Bay Packers last Sunday. All that’s left to play for is pride for the last place Jags against a team that has been a thorn in their side. But while the Colts have won 11 of the last 15 matchups, the Jags hold an 8-6-1 against the spread edge in those games.

This game will likely come down to whether the defense shows up. Defense and a strong running game were the staples of this team’s success in 2007-08 and neither have been consistently good this season. Jacksonville has especially been torched through the air this season, allowing opposing QB’s to complete 64.4% of their passes for a 7.8 passing yards per attempt average at home this season. These numbers could get even worse as arguably the best QB in the NFL, Peyton Manning comes knocking this week. Manning has passed for 3,543 yards and 23 touchdowns this season and is coming off a stellar 318-yard performance against the Lions. The Jags should not be lacking any confidence however, as one of its five wins have come against the Colts, a 23-21 road win back on September 21. While the Colts are a healthy 10-4 on the season, the NFL odds makers have played Colts backers like a toy this season. The Colts are only 5-8-1 against the number in all games this season and a winless 0-4 against the spread in division games. The Colts are just 2-2 in AFC South play this season with both of its wins coming over the Texans and those wins were only by 4 and 6 points respectively. This is a revenge spot for the Colts though as they look to avenge an early season defeat to the Jags when they clearly were not playing their best football. Indy has been far from dominant during its seven-game winning streak outside of a 35-3 win over lowly Cincinnati. The Colts found themselves tied with Detroit in the fourth quarter before pulling away to a 10-point lead. There other five wins during this stretch have come by six points or less. The Colts are 5-2 on the road this season, but they are actually averaging less points than they are giving up in those spots.
