Indianapolis Colts at New England Patriots Odds

Written by Jimmy Boyd on November 30, 2011

Odds makers are giving the Indianapolis Colts (0-11) no chance on the road against the New England Patriots (8-3) Sunday.

The Colts are currently listed as a 20-point underdog with the total set at 47.5.

Indy gave a good effort at home last week but still came up short in a 27-19 loss to the Carolina Panthers.

Curtis Painter completed 15 of 29 passes for 226 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. Five of those completions, including the touchdown toss, went to Reggie Wayne, who had a game-high 122 receiving yards.

Donald Brown headed up the running attack with 80 yards and a score on 14 carries.

The Patriots enter Week 13 riding a three-game winning streak after recording a 38-20 victory on the road over the Philadelphia Eagles.

Tom Brady connected on 24 of 34 passes for 361 yards with three touchdowns and no picks. Eight of those completions, including two of the touchdown throws, found the hands of Wes Welker, who finished the game with 115 receiving yards.

Welker’s 82 receptions and 1,143 receiving yards are league highs.

BenJarvus Green-Ellis led the way on the ground with 44 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 14 carries.

New England enters Week 13 ranked second in total offense with 429.5 yards per game and third in scoring with 30.1 points per game. This offense will have an opportunity to put up some impressive numbers against an Indianapolis stop unit that hasn’t stopped anyone.

The Colts rank dead last in scoring defense with 29.7 points allowed per contest and 29th in total defense with 389.4 yards allowed per game.

While Indy isn’t likely to have much success slowing down the New England offense, it should be able to move the football.

The Patriots currently rank dead last in the league with 409.8 yards allowed per contest.

While they have given up a lot of yards, they have been bailed out by big plays. The Pats enter Week 13 tied for second with 16 interceptions.

The Colts have won five of the last seven in this rivalry, but the Patriots won the most recent meeting 31-28 at home on Nov. 21, 2010.

Each of the last five in the series have been decided by four points or less, but this meeting figures to break the trend.

The Colts have lost seven in a row against the spread, but this could be the week they end the drought. After all, they are 10-3 against the spread in their last 13 games as an underdog of 10.5 points or more, and the Patriots are 3-13 against the number in their last 16 games as a favorite of 10.5 points or more.

In addition, the underdog is 12-3-2 against the spread in the last 17 in this series.

The Colts are 5-1-1 against the number in the last seven meetings.

As far as the total is concerned, the over just might be the play. The Colts have finished over the number in 13 of their last 16 on the road, and the Patriots have played to the over in 11 of their last 15 at home.
