Indianapolis Colts at Tennessee Titans NFL Betting & Predictions

Written by Jimmy Boyd on October 24, 2008

The Tennessee Titans will look to remain unbeaten when they take on the Indianapolis Colts on Monday Night Football in Week 8 action. Heading into the season most would have expected the Colts and not the Titans to be sitting at 6-0 and in first place in the AFC South, but that’s not how the cookie has crumbled. Odds makers like Tennessee’s chances to remain unbeaten and have listed the Titans as 4-point favorites with the total set at 40.5.

The Colts will not go down without a fight as they are not ready for their run of five straight AFC South titles to come to an end.

Tennessee handles Kansas City last Sunday with ease, racking up 34-10 win to stretch its NFL-best regular season winning streak to nine games dating back to last season. The franchise has not won this many games in a row since they were still the Houston Oilers.

The Titans are off to their best start in franchise history and are the only remaining undefeated team in the NFL. The skeptics would say their success is largely due to a soft schedule with three of their six wins coming against teams with losing marks.

Tennessee can go a long way toward striking some fear into the rest of the league with a big win over the class of the AFC South this week.

Against the Chiefs, the Titans racked up 455 total yards of offense with 332 of those coming on the ground. The performance set a franchise-mark for rushing yards in a game, shattering the previous mark of 296 which was ironically against the Chiefs also.

Chris Johnson gashed K.C. for 168 yards and a score and LenDale White hit up the Chiefs for 149 yards and three touchdowns. But defense has been the real story for Tennessee’s success.

The Titans have only allowed 66 points this season which is easily the fewest in the league. If you like Tennessee to make a statement this week with a big win over Indy, bet the Titans at -4 at Bookmaker and get a 20% cash signup bonus.

The Colts are yet to play like a Super Bowl contender or even a division contender this season. At 3-3, the Colts are off to their worst start since 2001 when they also opened the season 3-3. Hopefully this season will not finish the was that one did as the Colts finished just 6-10.

Indy was pounded at Green Bay last Sunday by 20 points. Running back Dominic Rhodes provided most of the highlights by scoring both of Indy’s touchdowns.

The Colts committed 12 infractions which cost them 110 yards and have been called for 46 total penalties this season. These whistles have been drive killers on offense and dive extenders when on defense.

Besides cleaning up the penalties, All Pro QB Peyton Manning must play better this week for Indy to win. He was just 21 of 42 last Sunday for 229 yards and two picks, finishing with a dreadful passer rating of 46.6.

There are problems on the defensive side of the ball as well with the Colts giving up 340.2 yards per game. The team desperately needs safety Bob Sanders back in the lineup as he is one of the best in the business at stepping up to fill on the run.

Indy is also giving up 153.5 yards per game against the run and will have to do a much better job than that against the NFL’s fourth ranked running attack.

The Colts do have history on their side, with a 15-11 lead in the all-time series against the newer Titans franchise. One thing is for sure, the Colts feel like this is a must win. If you think Indy can hand its division rivals their first loss of the season, bet the Colts at +4 at Bookmaker.
