Miguel Angel Cotto takes on Alfonso Gomez Saturday
April 12th at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New
Jersey for the WBA Welterweight Title. Cotto has
successfully defended his title three times, but will
Gomez be the guy who takes it away? Get Jimmy Boyd's
take as he weighs the Cotto-Gomez Boxing Odds.
Miguel Cotto is a former WBO Light Welterweight Champion
and is the current WBO Welterweight champ. The 27 year
old Puerto Rican fighter captured the Welterweight title
in 2006 with a win over Carlos Quintana. Cotto has a
staggering record of 31-0 with 25 wins coming by way of
knockout.
Gomez made a name for himself by starring on the reality
TV series The Contender where he ended up third out of
16 fighters. He has a professional boxing record of
18-3-2. Gomez has shown a strong work ethic that comes
with having your father as your coach, but he appears to
be out of his league here. Since The Contender, Gomez is
undefeated through six fights with wins over Jesse
Brinkley, Luciano Perez, Jesse Feliciano, Martin
Concepcion, Arturo Gatti, and Ben Tackie
Let's put it this way,
BodogLife.com lists Cotto as the -1000 heavy
favorite for a reason. The guy has been a champion of
his weight class since 2004, defending titles numerous
times. In Cotto's last fight, he defeated Shane Mosely
via unanimous decision to solidify himself as an elite
fighter. Gomez hasn't fought anyone close to this
caliber and that will be made evident early on in this
one. While Gomez has the will to be a champion, he does
not has the raw ability that Cotto possesses.
If you don't want to lay a big number here for a small
return to get Cotto, you can bet the Under 9.5 rounds at
BodogLife.com as we have Cotto knocking out Gomez.
