Denver Broncos at Oakland Raiders NFL Betting Lines & Picks
The 2-0 Denver Broncos take on the 1-1 Oakland Raiders this Sunday at McAfee Coliseum in a Week 3 AFC West Division showdown. The Broncos were lucky to win in Cincinnati in Week 1, but there was nothing lucky about their 27-6 beat down of the Browns in Week 2. After a narrow defeat to San Diego in Week 1, the Raiders got in the win column with a 13-10 victory in Kansas City. While Oakland QB JaMarcus Russell has struggled through the first two weeks of the season, he was brilliant the last time he faced the Broncos, completing 10 of 11 passes for 152 yards and a touchdown in a 31-10 victory. The Broncos have won six of the last eight meetings but still trail 55-40-2 in the all-time series. The Denver Broncos are listed as a 2-point road favorite with the total set at 35.5.

The Raiders have not defeated the Broncos in consecutive games since 2002. If they are to pull it off this week, they are going to need the type of efficient passing game Russell displayed against the Broncos in Week 12 of last season. Through the first two weeks Russell is just 19 of 54 for 317 yards. The Raiders want to be a running team and they have the potential to be a good one, but if Russell isn’t able to make defenses pay when they put too many guys in the box, the offense will continue to struggle to put points on the board.
The Oakland offensive line does take a hit with starting guard Robert Gallery going down with a broken leg. I don’t expect his absence to keep the Raiders from looking to pound the football early and often with Darren McFadden and Michael Bush.
Defensively, Raiders safety Michael Huff is the guy I’m keeping my eyes on. Huff currently leads the NFL with three interceptions and Broncos QB Kyle Orton has been known to make a few bad decisions with the football. It is worth noting that the Broncos are only 1-5 against the number in the last six meetings and 6-21-1 against the spread in their last 28 games as a favorite. If you like Oakland at home this week, bet the Raiders at +2 at Bookmaker.
We’ve seen a poor offensive performance by Denver in Week 1 and a pretty good one in Week 2. The offense will likely be up and down like that throughout the season. However, the defense has played well each of the last two weeks. Last week, Elvis Dumervil starred. He got penetration against the Browns offensive line all day long and came up with four big sacks. Russell is only completing 35 percent of his passes this season and that number doesn’t figure to go up with Dumervil in his grill.
Offensively, we can usually expect a pretty balanced attack from Denver, but the guy I’ll be focusing on is wide receiver Brandon Marshall. So far, he has been very quiet with only 61 yards in two games. With leading receiver Brandon Stokley listed as questionable with a thigh injury, Marshall is going to have to play like an All-Pro this week. The Denver wideout only needs 40 more yards to reach the 3,000-yard mark for his career. It is worth noting that the Raiders are just 2-11 against the spread in their last 13 games as a home underdog of 3.0 points or less. If you like Denver to stay unbeaten, bet the Broncos at -2 at Bookmaker.
