Miami Dolphins at Kansas City Chiefs Odds
The Kansas City Chiefs (4-3) will be looking for their fifth straight win when they host the winless Miami Dolphins (0-7) Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium.
The Chiefs are currently listed as a five-point favorite with the total set at 39.5.
A fumbled snap by Philip Rivers gave the Chiefs new life as they pulled out a 23-20 overtime win at home over the San Diego Chargers Monday night. The victory pulled the defending AFC West champs even with the Chargers and Oakland Raiders atop the division.
Quarterback Matt Cassel completed 19 of 32 throws for 261 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. Five of those completions, including the touchdown toss, went to wideout Jonathan Baldwin, who led the team with 82 receiving yards.
Running back Jackie Battle led the way on the ground with 70 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries.
The Dolphins blew an opportunity to pick up their first win by blowing a 14-3 lead in Sunday’s 20-17 road loss to the New York Giants.
Quarterback Matt Moore connected on 13 of 22 passes for only 138 yards and an interception, but he was picked up by a running game that managed 145 yards. Former Saint Reggie Bush ran for 103 of those yards to lead the team.
Brandon Marshall led the receiving corps with four catches for 55 yards.
Running the football likely gives the Dolphins the best opportunity to record their first win this week, which means Bush will have to come up big again if Daniel Thomas is still out with a hamstring injury.
Bush had averaged just 36.4 rushing yards per game before last week’s breakout performance. He should have a chance to go over the century mark again Sunday versus a Kansas City team that ranks 22nd in the league with 122.1 rushing yards allowed per game.
While Kansas City prefers to run the football with its ninth-ranked rushing attack, it may have to air it out to win Sunday. That’s because the Dolphins rank 13th against the run with 109.9 yards allowed per game but 27th against the pass with 270.7 yards allowed per contest.
The Chiefs, however, rank 28th in the NFL in passing offense with 184.1 yards per game.
These two have split the last four meetings, but Miami has won the last two and seven of the last nine. They last met on Dec. 21, 2008 in Kansas City with the Dolphins prevailing 38-31.
The favorite is 4-1-1 against the number in the last six meetings between these teams, but the Chiefs are only 4-12-1 against the spread in their last 17 games as a favorite.
It is also worth noting that Kansas City is 3-8 against the spread in its last 11 games when playing on Sunday following a Monday night game.
As far as the total is concerned, the under just might be the play. The Dolphins have finished under the number in each of their last six, and the Chiefs have played to the under in four of their last five.
