Philadelphia Eagles at Baltimore Ravens NFL Odds & Picks

Coming off the NFL’s first tie in six seasons, the Eagles need to start digging themselves out of the NFC East basement now. What was supposed to be a easy win against the 1-8 Bengals has now forced the Eagles to have to be even more perfect from here on out. They’ll take on a Ravens team that was crushed by the defending Super Bowl champs last week. Ironically enough, Philadelphia’s only previous game against the Ravens also ended in a draw. NFL odds makers apparently wouldn’t be too surprised if this one ended in a tie as well. Bookmaker has listed the Ravens as slight 1-point favorites with the total set at 39.5.
Last week’s visit to Cincinnati was supposed to get the Eagles right back in contention in the tough NFC East. Instead, they are now all alone in last place in the division following a 13-13 tie. QB Donovan McNabb has been highly criticized for outwardly admitting that he did not know a game could end in a tie. Someone may need to bring it to his attention that the Eagles tied the Ravens 10-10 two years before he arrived in Philly. The Giants’ defense was dominant in last week’s blowout win over Baltimore and now the Eagles will look to use their strong pass rush to gain an advantage over the Ravens and their rookie QB. No team has gotten to the quarterback more often than Philadelphia this season. The Eagles have 36 sacks, one fewer than they had in 2007, and got to Cincinnati’s Ryan Fitzpatrick eight times last Sunday. After four straight quality games by Joe Flacco in which he did not throw an interception, New York’s pressure forced him into throwing two in the Ravens 20-point loss to New York. If you like Philly’s pass rush to get the best of the Ravens this week, bet the Eagles at +1 at Bookmaker and receive a 20% cash sign up bonus.
The Ravens will be happy to play at home, where they are 3-1 this season, after three straight weeks out on the road. Baltimore has not been able to get to opposing QB like the Eagles, but its top notch defense has been a big reason for the team’s quick turnaround nevertheless. Baltimore is among the NFL’s top three teams in rushing defense (79.6 yards per game), total defense (267.9) and interceptions (15). However, the Ravens did not look like one of the best defensive teams in the league last Sunday. They were torched for 207 yards on the ground which was the most allowed by the team in more than a decade. New York is the top rushing team in the NFL. The pass-happy Eagles do not figure to be as big of a challenge on the ground. Only three teams have fewer carries than the Eagles this season, and they’re 26th in the league in rushing yards per game at 95.3. Philly ran the football only 18 times against Cincinnati but that did not appear to be a recipe for success as McNabb’s career-high 58 pass attempts saw four turnovers. The Ravens haven’t allowed a 100-yard rusher in 29 straight games and Eagles All-Pro tailback Brian Westbrook has only one 100-yard performance this season. Bet the Ravens at -1 at Bookmaker if you like them to bounce back with a win at home this week.
