Florida at Florida State Football Betting Odds

Written by Jimmy Boyd

The No. 2 Florida Gators are in full control of their title hopes, but they are going to have to take care of one final regular season piece of business as they head to Tallahassee to take on the No. 23 Florida State Seminoles. It appears that the odds makers believe that Florida will get the job done as the Gators are 16.5 point favorites with the total set at 57.

The Gators only have one loss on the season and it came by a single point to Ole Miss in late September. Since then they have won seven games in a row and none of them by less than 28 points. Florida will go head on with the No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship, with the winner of that game landing in the national title game if both can take care of business this week.

Florida State though is no slouch as they proved with their 37-3 domination of Maryland a week ago. If Maryland can beat Boston College then the Seminoles will be playing for the ACC Championship. Even though FSU is 8-3, all three of their losses have been by fewer than 10 points.

The Gators offense has been nothing short of terrific this year in piling up 46.5 points per game and 444.6 total yards per game. Quarterback Tim Tebow has ran for 11 touchdowns and thrown for an additional 22. He only has two interceptions while completing 66% of his passes for 2,114 yards. He has talent all around him, with the primary weapon being Percy Harvin. Harvin has ran for 525 yards and eight touchdowns on only 55 attempts, but he also has 35 receptions for 595 yards and seven scores.

As good as Florida’s offense is though the defense has been nearly just as dangerous. The Gators are near the tops of the national ranks for a variety of categories, including a third place ranking with their 12 points per game allowed. The Gators are also allowing 278.7 total yards per game with a balance of strong pass defense and a run stuffing defense. Florida is also second in the nation with 20 picks, and has not allowed a single first quarter point in their last six games, with only seven points being scored on them in the first frame all year. Florida State is posting 34.3 points per game this season while moving the ball 380.2 total yards per game. Antone Smith has lead the ground attack with 14 rushing touchdowns while quarterback Christian Ponder has thrown for 12 scores. Ponder has played a little inconsistent at times though and might be in for more than he bargained for against a tough Gator defense.

The Seminoles defense allowed only 252 yards while forcing four turnovers last week against Maryland. FSU has one of the best pass rushers in the nation in Everette Brown, who has 20.5 tackles for losses and 12.5 sacks.
