The Janus Report: Georgetown at UConn Free Basketball Picks & Predictions

janus-report-122908 Conference play in the Big East tips off with this monster match up between the 11th-ranked Georgetown Hoyas and the 2nd-ranked UConn Huskies. Connecticut will host tonight as 7 point favorites.

Other than a neutral court loss against Tennessee earlier this year, Georgetown has not played a quality opponent. The Hoyas lost that game 90-78, and I’m expecting them to get beat at least that badly tonight as they open up conference play against the best team in the conference.

UConn, who is already 11-0 on the season, has defeated Wisconsin, Miami, and Gonzaga, all of which I would consider quality opponents. I love the Huskies frontcourt this season and I do not think that Georgetown matches up well with 7 foot 3 inch Center, Hasheem Thabeet, or stud starting forward Jeff Adrien. Both are excellent rebounders and Thabeet is a beast under the basket. He’s already blocked 41 shots on the season in just 11 games.

I do think that the Hoyas backcourt will match up well with UConns’, but you have to give the Huskies a slight edge on their home court. Georgetown has become too reliant on the 3-point shot early in the season. If they catch a cold hand, this game might be a complete blowout.

The Hoyas just don’t have the talent in the frontcourt to compete with Connecticut this season, let alone on the Huskies’ home court. I fully expect this to be a double-digit victory by UConn.
