Georgia at Auburn Football Odds & Picks

Both the No. 13 Georgia Bulldogs and the Auburn Tigers are having disappointing seasons, but these two foes will have a chance to put the hurt on the other this weekend when the two collide in SEC play. Georgia has been embarrassed by Alabama and Florida this year, but bounced back last week with a 42-38 win over Kentucky. An 8-2 record is nothing to be ashamed of, but this team had SEC and national title hopes coming into the year and won’t have a shot at either. Auburn struggled last week against Tennessee-Martin and now stands at 5-5 on the year. This team needs another win just to become eligible for a bowl game. The college football odds makers aren’t really counting on them getting it this week either, as Auburn is an 8.5-point underdog to Georgia with the total set at 47.5.
The Bulldogs have done their part on offense with a scoring average of 32.6 points per game on 436.8 total yards per game. The key has been running back Knowshon Moreno who has ran for 1,113 yards and 15 scores while gaining 5.9 yards per carry. Matthew Stafford has let the team down in big games, but he still has completed 61% of his passes for 2,587 yards and 15 touchdowns to eight interceptions. Stafford’s top target has been AJ Green a freshman with 46 receptions for 806 receiving yards and six scores. Mohamed Massaquoi also has done a great job catching passes with 41 grabs for 669 yards and five scores.
The defense has not done quite as good of a job as the offense, as Georgia is giving up 24.9 points per game and have allowed 33 touchdowns to opposing offense, 17 of which have came on the ground. The Georgia defense has done a better job of stopping the run than the pass through, with 3.3 yards per carry compared to 12.1 yards per pass completion. Auburn hasn’t done a very good job of moving the ball or getting the ball in the end zone. The Tigers are scoring just 19.5 points per game on 315.4 total yards per game. There really isn’t a star on this side of the ball, and Ben Tate leads the ground game with 615 yards and three touchdowns. Quarterback Kodi Burns is second on the team with 377 yards and five touchdowns, but he has only completed 54.8% of his passes for 758 yards and one touchdown. All of that while throwing seven interceptions. Chris Todd has been the better passer when he’s under center, but neither one of these guys can open things up for the rushing attack.
The Auburn defense has been pretty solid, allowing just 16.3 points per game. The opposition has only hit the end zone four times running the ball, even though the Tigers have allowed 15 passing touchdowns. Opponents are also having a tough time picking up third downs, finding success just 28% of the time against the Tigers.
