Green Bay Packers at Tampa Bay Buccaneers NFL Predictions & Odds

Written by Jimmy Boyd on November 4, 2009

The battle of the Bay’s takes place in Week 9 action as the Green Bay Packers travel to Tampa Bay to take on the Buccaneers. Last week, Packers’ legend Brett Favre got the best of his former team with a 38-26 win in his first trip to Lambeau Field as a Viking. The Bucs were idle. The Packers and the Bucs just met last season with the Bucs picking off three Aaron Rodgers passes to win 30-21. Six of the last nine meetings in this series have gone to Tampa Bay but Green Bay owns a 30-20-1 lead in the all-time series. NFL odds makers have listed the Green Bay Packers as a 10-point favorite with the total set at 44.

Things may get worse before they get better for the Tampa Bay Bucs as they turn to rookie first-round draft pick Josh Freeman as their starting QB this week. I suppose the organization feels it can’t get much worse than 0-7 so now is as good a time as any to start grooming the player they hope will be their franchise signal caller. Freeman has had a bye week to prepare but he faces a stiff test against a very good and experienced Packers secondary, which includes Charles Woodson and Al Harris. I’m sure Woodson will be excited about going up against the fresh meat this week as he may be able to add to his already extensive highlight reel. Woodson leads the NFL with five interception returns for scores since 2006.

We knew it would be a rebuilding year for Tampa Bay but few thought it would be this bad, including Raheem Morris, the NFC’s youngest coach. His ability to keep his players motivated and eager to improve will be critical if Tampa Bay hopes to get a win in the season’s second half.   It is worth noting that the Buccaneers are 10-3 ATS in their last 13 games as a home underdog of 3.5-10.0 points.  If you like Tampa Bay to put together a solid effort at home off a bye week, bet the Buccaneers at +10 at BetUS.

Okay, now it’s over. The Packers were swept by Brett in the season series. They have to put that behind them and concentrate on winning some football games. This has all the makings of a letdown spot so Green Bay is going to have to show some mental toughness to make sure it is ready to play some football Sunday.

One player I know we can count on to show up is QB Aaron Rodgers who has posted a passer rating of 100 or better in five straight games. Rodgers has 1989 yards and 14 touchdowns on the season. He is going to do his part to keep the Packers in games so it’s time for the new 3-4 defensive scheme to start getting some stops.   It is worth noting that the Packers are 16-6-1 ATS in their last 23 road games.  If you like Green Bay to put last week’s emotional loss behind it with a big win and cover this week, bet the Packers at -10 at BetUS.
