A number of sportsbooks
are getting in on the boxing action with the Holyfield
Savarese odds being posted. Evander Holyfield
may be 44 years of age, but he still thinks he's got what
it takes and wants to be the Heavyweight champion of the
world once again. The good news for Evander in this
bout will be he's facing another dinosaur in Lou Savarese,
who is 41. Holyfield made his return to the ring
more than a year ago, and has been claiming he wants to
regain a title belt by the time he turns 46. He may
not have the speed or power that he once had, but believes
that his ring smarts will help him beat younger, quicker
opponents.
In his last three fights since returning, Holyfield has
looked somewhat impressive. First he beat down
33-year-old Jeremy Bates, stopping the fight in the second
round, then won a unanimous 10-round decision against Fres
Oquendo. He made his third return to the ring back
in March, delivering a second-round knockout to Vinny
Maddalone. His record has improved to 41-8-2 with 27
knockouts after those three wins, and he's shown he still
has what it takes to get it done in the ring.
Savarese returned to the ring last year also after
trying his hand at acting. He is currently 46-6 with
38 knockouts after having beat two fighters in his return.
The first was Marcus Rhode back in March of last year, and
he scored a second-round knockout. Against Travis
Fulton in Janurary, Savarese took three rounds to knock
out his opponent.
Don't let the recent success Savarese has had into
duping you into taking him. Holyfield is a much
better fighter who has had stiffer competition. He
will reportedly get a title shot against WBO Heavyweight
champ Sultan Ibragimov if he can pull off the win here.
Holyfield hasn't worked this hard to get beat up by
another 40-something.
