Hopkins Wright Odds

The biggest fight of the summer is coming and if you want to get in on the action then take a look at the Hopkins Wright odds below and see if you can find any value.  Bernard Hopkins is 42 years of age and nicknamed the Executioner.  His career is very storied as he was the undisputed champion of the Middleweight division by holding all four belts from the WBA, WBC, IBF, and WBO.  He successfully defended his title 20 times which is far more than any middleweight in history.  In July of 2005 when he was 40 years old he finally lost his title in a controversial bout to Jermain Taylor.  He hadn't lost since 1993 and lost a split decision even though Taylor missed most of his punches.  He then lost the rematch in December of 2005 by unanimous decision despite landing almost double the power punches Taylor did.  His career record stands at 47 wins, 4 losses, 1 draw, and a no contest with 32 knockouts.  Last June he took the Ring light heavyweight championship from Antonio Tarver.

Ronald "Winky" Wright is the slight favorite in this fight and comes in with 51 wins, 3 losses, and a draw with 25 wins by knockout.  He is 35 years old, but his age pales in comparison to his opponent.  Wright has beaten some big names as well.  In 2004 he had a pair of fights against Shane Mosley in which he won both pretty soundly.  Then in May of 2005 Felix Trinidad thought he could step up to the plate against Winky, but lost every round giving Wright the top contender spot for the WBC middleweight championship.  He now seems to be the second best pound-for-pound fighter in the world behind Floyd Mayweather.

This fight should be a great one and one of the summer's biggest pay-per-view tickets.  Hopkins may be a little past his prime but has kept himself in great shape and even stepped up to win his last fight against Antonio Tarver, widely regarded as one of the best light heavyweights in the world.  Winky Wright has done a lot in his career and a win here would just further solidify his legacy.
