NBA Odds: Houston Rockets at Phoenix Suns

ESPN’s Wednesday night double header of NBA basketball continues when the Houston Rockets head to Phoenix to take on the Suns. Phoenix is off to a strong start under their first-year head coach Terry Porter, going 6-2 SU and 5-3 ATS and the Suns will be trying for their third straight win on Wednesday night. The NBA lines have been posted for this game and show Phoenix as a 4-point favorite with the total listed at 195.
The Suns are coming off a 107-102 home win against the Memphis Grizzlies last Sunday, but the team never really gave their backers any hope of covering the 11.5 point spread they were favored by. This non-cover was the first time all year long that the team who won the game that involved Phoenix didn’t also cover the spread. It seems like the fate of Phoenix each night depends on how well their offense is producing as the team has scored at least 103 points in all six of their wins, while they are averaging only 89 points in their two losses.
The Houston Rockets come into this game at 4-3 SU and just 2-5 ATS. The Rockets started the season off hot with three straight double-digit wins, but they have now lost three of their last four games. Sunday’s performance against the Lakers might have been an early season low, when the Rockets lost 111-82 as seven-point underdogs. The problem with Houston seems to be that they can’t get any offense going as they have passed the century mark just one time in their last 16 games dating back to last year.
The home team is 4-2 SU over the last six meetings between the two teams, and the winner has alternated each time. For bettors though these matchups have been dominated by Phoenix, who is 9-2 ATS over the last 11 in the series, including 4-1 ATS at home. The Rockets/Suns matchups have also normally gone as expected with the favorites cashing tickets for backers seven of the last ten times the two teams have squared off.
Houston is just 2-5 ATS in their last seven games against Western Conference opponents, but they had won four straight at the pay window against the Pacific Division before the loss on Sunday to the Lakers. A nice trend for Phoenix is that they have came back to cash tickets in nine of their last ten after failing to cover in their previous game.
For total bettors, Houston is 4-1 OVER in their last five road games, while Phoenix has gone OVER in six of their last eight overall. Phoenix has also gone over in four of their last five at home, but the UNDER has cashed in five of the last six matchups between these two teams.
