Houston Texans at Buffalo Bills NFL Odds & Betting
The 4-3 Houston Texans take on the 3-4 Buffalo Bills at Ralph Wilson Stadium this Sunday in a Week 8 AFC showdown. Last week, both teams came out smelling like roses as the Bills took down Carolina 20-9 on the road and the Texans held on against San Francisco 24-21. The Texans and the Bills last met in the 2006 season with the Bills coming out on top 24-21 behind a big day from J.P. Losman. The Bills have won two straight in this matchup and they own a 3-1 lead in the all-time series. The Houston Texans are listed as a 3-point favorite with the total set at 41.5.

If Buffalo hopes to pull off the small upset this week, it is going to need continued stellar secondary play from Jairus Byrd. The rookie leads the AFC with five interceptions this season. Buffalo could use another one or two out of him against the Texans and their top ranked passing offense. Look for defensive end Aaron Schobel, who has a sack each of the last two times he has faced off against the Texans, to be instrumental in slowing down Houston’s passing attack as well. In all, the Bills have forced 10 turnovers the past two weeks in earning back-to-back wins. The defense must continue to be opportunistic as the offense tries to adjust to life with QB Ryan Fitzpatrick at the controls. Last week, the Bills only had 167 yards of total offense. The good news for Buffalo is that Fitzpatrick is an experienced backup, having started 12 games in place of Carson Palmer for the Bengals last season. The bad news is that I haven’t seen enough in his play to inspire much confidence. But as long as the defense continues to make big plays, Buffalo figures to be competitive. It is worth noting that the Bills are 5-0 against the spread in their last five games after accumulating less than 150 yards passing in their previous game. If you like Buffalo to win for a third straight week, bet the Bills at +3 at Bookmaker.
Houston finally broke through last week, winning back-to-back games for the first time this season to climb over the .500 mark. That is a major stepping stone for a team that has played .500 ball each of the last two seasons. We have also seen Houston improve on the road. The Texans are 2-1 away from home this season and they have won four of their last six road games dating back to 2008.
We here plenty about QB Matt Schaub hooking up with star wideout Andre Johnson, but it’s time that tight end Owen Daniels got his due. He has one more catch than Johnson on the season and one more touchdown catch as well. In all, Daniels has 39 grabs for 497 yards and five touchdowns. As teams continue to game plan for Johnson, Daniels continues to make them pay.
I’ve been plugging this kid all season, and with good cause. On the defensive side of the football, make sure you’re watching linebacker Brian Cushing this week. He is all over the field, leading all rookies with 56 stops. It is worth noting that the Bills are only 1-7 against the spread in their last eight home games. If you like Houston to keep right on rolling, bet the Texans at -3 at Bookmaker.
