Indianapolis Colts at Miami Dolphins NFL Odds & Predictions
The Indianapolis Colts visit LandShark Stadium to take on the Miami Dolphins on ESPN’s Monday Night Football to conclude Week 2 NFL action. The Colts enter this week’s matchup 1-0 after edging out Jacksonville 14-12 while the Dolphins enter 0-1, losing 19-7 behind four turnovers in Atlanta. These teams last met in 2006 with Peyton Manning leading the Colts to a 27-22 victory, but the Dolphins have won four of the last six meetings and they own a decisive 46-23 advantage in the all-time series. NFL lines makers have listed the Indianapolis Colts as a 3-point favorite with the total set at 42 on the road this week.

With Indy’s Week 1 win, it improved to 10-0 its last 10 regular season games, the longest current streak in the NFL. If it hopes to build on that streak, the offense will likely have to show up in Week 2. With the Dolphins likely to key on wide receiver Reggie Wayne, No. 2 wideout Anthony Gonzalez would be the thankful beneficiary. However, a knee injury will keep Gonzalez out this week. That means that Austin Collie and Pierre Garcon will be asked to step in and step up. While not having Gonzalez out on the field will hurt, the Colts do have the luxury of putting one of the game’s best tight ends out there. Look for Dallas Clark to have a big game to fill the void left by Gonzalez. Here’s something you should know. Clark’s 17 touchdown catches since 2007 are tied for the most in the NFL among tight ends with San Diego’s Antonio Gates.
Indy was not known as a blitz-happy team under Tony Dungy and his famous Tampa-2 defense, but it might not be long before they are under new coach Jim Caldwell. We saw Indy’s new aggressive zone blitzing scheme at work last week, making life difficult for QB David Garrard and running back Maurice Jones-Drew all day long. Expect them to go after Chad Pennington and the Dolphins this week following a bad day of ball handling in Week 1. It is worth noting that the Colts are 5-1 against the spread in their last six Monday Night Football games. If you like Peyton Manning and company laying a small number on the road this week, bet the Colts at -3 at BetUS.
The Dolphins are all set to play their first Monday Night Football home game since Christmas day 2006. The biggest thing that sticks out following their Week 1 loss is the four turnovers they committed. That is very uncharacteristic for a Bill Parcells led team. In fact, Miami had a plus 17 turnover ratio in 2008 to lead the NFL. This is a team that won with defense and a unique offensive scheme last season and it will not be able to build off of last year’s breakthrough performance if it doesn’t value the football. The running game was a big part of Miami’s success as well in 2008, but Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams and company only combined for 96 rushing yards in Week 1. Look for the Dolphins to make running the football a priority this week, testing an Indy interior that has been susceptible in the past. It is worth noting that the Colts are 1-5 against the spread in the last six head-to-head meetings and the underdog is 8-1 against the number in the last nine head-to-heads. If you like Miami to get back on track, bet the Dolphins at +3 at BetUS.
