Indianapolis Colts at Tennessee Titans NFL Predictions & Lines
The 4-0 Indianapolis Colts take on the 0-4 Tennessee Titans at LP Field in a Week 5 AFC South Division battle on NBC’s Sunday Night Football. Last week, the Colts took care of business with a 34-17 win over the Seahawks to stay unbeaten while the Titans fell to 0-4 with a 37-17 loss to rival Jacksonville. These teams last met in Week 17 of last season. The Colts won 23-0 in a battle of backups as the Titans had already sealed their fate as the No. 1 seed in the AFC playoffs. Even with that loss the Titans have won three of the last five meetings, but the Colts hold a 16-13 lead in the all-time series. NFL lines makers expect things to get even worse for Tennessee, listing the Colts as a 3.5-point favorite with the total set at 45.5.

Dating back to last season, the Colts have won an NFL-high 13 consecutive regular season games. They’ll have an excellent chance to run that number to 14 straight against a Tennessee Titans team that is yet to get in the win column. I didn’t think it was possible for Peyton Manning to get any better, but somehow he has. Manning is playing near-perfect football right now. He is completing a career-high 71 percent of his passes and is averaging a career-high 9.8 yards per pass attempt. In all, he’s 97 of 137 for 1336 yards and nine touchdowns. With Marvin Harrison no longer around and with Anthony Gonzalez banged up, he’s doing his damage with rookie Austin Collie and second year man Pierre Garcon as two of his targets. Of course, Manning still has Reggie Wayne and Dallas Clark to work with. Manning is 9-5 in his career against the Titans and Tennessee enters as the NFL’s worst defense against the pass. It could be another huge day for Manning. It is worth noting that the Colts are 5-1-1 against the spread in their last six games versus a team with a losing record. If you like Indy to keep right on rolling, bet the Colts at -3.5 at BetUS.
For the Titans to have a shot this week, they are going to have to forget about their previous four games. It seems like things are getting worse and worse each week and it may take a big win over Indy to stop the bleeding. Titans QB Kerry Collins ranks third among active QB’s with 38,307 passing yards, but the yards aren’t coming as easy this season. Collins is struggling early. The running game hasn’t been as consistent, and as a result, Collins has often been asked to do too much. Last season, he was an excellent game manager who didn’t make many mistakes. This season, he has already committed seven turnovers in four games. The bottom line is the defense is going to really have to want it this week and the running game is going to have to be fierce. Miami had huge success running the football against the Colts, racking up 239 yards on the ground. If Tennessee can run the football and control the clock like Miami did, they should be right in this one until the end. It is worth noting that the Titans are a perfect 8-0 against the spread in their last eight games as an underdog of 3.5-10.0 points. If you think this trend continues this week, bet the Titans at +3.5 at BetUS.
