Jacksonville Jaguars at Tennessee Titans NFL Odds

Written by -

The Tennessee Titans (5-6) found themselves leading the AFC South after a 37-19 win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Oct. 24. Since then they have endured four straight losses, including a 20-0 setback at Houston last Sunday.

Despite Tennessee’s recent poor play, NFL odds makers believe the Titans have what it takes to end their skid Sunday against Jacksonville. They have listed the Titans as 3-point favorites with the total set at 43.

With rookie quarterback Rusty Smith getting his first career start last week, Tennessee only managed 162 yards of offense. Smith was also picked off three times in the defeat. With Houston paying no respect to Smith and the passing game, running back Chris Johnson was held to a career-low five yards.

The Titans rank 30th in the NFL in total offense, averaging only 298.1 yards per game. The majority of their offensive struggles have stemmed from a poor passing attack. The Titans rank 31st in passing offense averaging 180.5 yards per game through the air.

The Titans relied heavily on their defense to put them in positions to score early in the season, but that has started to catch up with them. The offense hasn’t scored a touchdowns in nine quarters, and it ranks dead last in the league in time of possession.

Despite everything the Titans have been through both on and off the field in recent weeks, they only find themselves one game out of first in the AFC South.

The return of veteran quarterback Kerry Collins and wide receiver Kenny Britt would go a long way toward helping Tennessee get back on track.

Collins has missed two games with a calf injury, but his status had been upgraded to probable for Sunday.  Britt has missed the last three games with a hamstring injury and is listed as questionable this week.

The two aforementioned helped Tennessee defeat Jacksonville 30-3 on Oct. 18. Collins replaced an injured Vince Young and completed 11 of 16 passes for 110 yards and a score. Britt also caught a touchdown pass in that game.

Tennessee has won the last two meetings and four of the last five in this series. Last season, it recorded a 30-13 home win over the Jags behind a 228-yard day from Johnson.

The Titans are 16-6-1 against the number in their last 23 games as a home favorite of 3.0 or fewer points. If you expect Tennessee to end its losing streak, bet the Titans at -3 at BetUS.

The Jaguars blew an opportunity to take over sole possession in the AFC South when they blew an 11-point lead in last Sunday’s 24-20 loss to the New York Giants. Jacksonville remained tied with Indianapolis for first place following the Colts’ loss to the Chargers.

Jacksonville’s biggest responsibility this week is to keep quarterback David Garrard upright. He was mauled by the Giants last week, taking four sacks.

It certainly didn’t help that the Jags were without blindside protector Eugene Monroe, who missed the game due to a concussion. Fortunately, Jacksonville will have him back this week to contend with Tennessee’s ferocious pass rush. The Titans are tied for second in the league with 32 sacks.

Garrard is having a solid season, but he has struggled in three career starts at Tennessee, throwing two touchdowns compared to seven interceptions.

Jacksonville enters Sunday’s showdown playing the best football in the division. The Jags are 3-1 straight up and 4-0 against the spread in their last four games. If you expect Jacksonville to cover the spread in a fifth straight game, bet the Jaguars at +3 at BetUS.
