New York Jets at Buffalo Bills NFL Odds & Line

Written by Brad Marchetti

The Buffalo Bills will look to get back on track against the New York Jets this week after being upset 16-25 on the road to the Miami Dolphins as -3 chalk. The New York Jets vs Buffalo Bills game should be an AFC East dogfight between two squads at a crossroads. “It’s hard when you lose to leave it and let it go regardless of what’s coming up,” said Buffalo coach Dick Jauron, referring to the team’s preparation for the Jets. This week the Bills will look to force an inconsistent Brett Favre into some mistakes on their home soil. the Jets have lost three straight to Buffalo. The NFL betting odds for the New York Jets vs Buffalo Bills game is Buffalo -5.5 to 6.0 on the SPREAD.

Brett Favre has been much more erratic this year than he was last, but he still has the Jets to as many wins as they had a year ago. Favre has a nice 89.5 passer rating to boot and can make plays on the move with the best of them. Favre (55 MPH Pass- Speed = 95 MPH Fastball) will attack a leaky Bills secondary that has some iffy starters. Starting Bills CB Terrence McGee was picked on unmercifully last week by the Miami Dolphins modest passing game. The Bills could catch a break if Favre’s #2 option WR Jerricho Coychery (36 Rec. 436 Yds. 3 TD) is out with a shoulder injury. The Bills have been far sturdier on the ground with sure tackling MLB Paul Posluszny (6′1″ 238 4.60 40-Speed) leading Buffalo’s 13th ranked rush D. Jets RB Thomas Jones (4.4 598 Yds. 5 TD) has been a dangerous red-zone threat that will play a key role in keeping the offence balanced. Backup RB Leon Washington (4.35 40-speed) is also very dangerous near the goal line. Favre should have plenty of time to throw if RB Thomas Jones (400+ Bench-Press) produces a big game. Buffalo has only recorded 13.0 sacks. The Bills pass-rush is only mediocre with star DE Aaron Schobel likely to sit on the sidelines. Favre has been making some questionable decisons lately, but his athletic wideouts 6′0″ Coles (4.35 40-speed) and 6′0″ Cotchery (4.55 40-speed) could smoke the Bills short corners 5′10″ Jabari Greer and 5′9″ Terrence McGee. Coles has been bothered by a thigh injury but will still start.

Buffalo QB Trent Edwards (92.9 passer rating) had an off-game last week and could be hurting again with his #2 WR Josh Reed (26 Rec. 288 Yds.) expected to be out against the Jets. Edwards will still has playmaking WR Lee Evans (4.35 40-speed) and big red-zone target 6′6″ WR James Hardy to burn NY’s 23rd ranked passs defense with, but #3 WR Roscoe Parrish has been ineffective. Last week, the Jets overall defensive effort was spotty in a 28-24 win over lowly Kansas City Chiefs. Road-grading 335 Lb. Jets DT Kris Jenkins (22 Tkl. 1.0 Sack. 3 TFL) has been a force in the middle, but the Jets have allowed to many plays. “The most disappointing thing was the amount of points we gave up, knowing the caliber of the players on this defense,” Jets defensive end Kenyon Coleman said. One area of the Jets defense that has been very good has been the 3rd ranked pass-rush. The Jets don’t blitz often, yet they still get great pressure on opposing QB’s. The Jets have suffered a major setback in their run defense with the loss of leading takler MLB David Harris. With Harris expected to be out, Bills speedy RB Marshawn Lynch (4.45 40-Speed) will look to burn NY on the perimeter. The Bills will try to dictate the pace of the game with the 215 Lb Lynch (400+ Bench-Press) and 210 Lb. power back Fred Jackson (4.2 YPC 1 TD). The Jets have an excellent run defense that is ranked 4th in the NFL. The NFL betting odds OVER\UNDER for the New York Jets vs Buffalo Bills game is at 41.5 to 42.5 points.

This game is expected to be played in mid-40 degree weather under clear skies. Favre will look to avoid mistakes while trying to nail Coles deep occasionally. The Bills will be fired up playing at home after a tough loss to Miami. Buffalo Quarterback Trent Edwards has been playing at a Pro-Bowl level for most of this year. As in most NFL games, the team that turns the ball over should win.The NFL betting odds MONEYLINE for the New York Jets vs Buffalo Bills game is Buffalo -321 to -335.
