New York Jets at Miami Dolphins Spread
Back-to-back losses down the stretch could cost the New York Jets (8-7) a place in the AFC Playoffs. That would be quite the story considering the Jets have made back-to-back trips to the AFC title game.
New York, who needs to defeat the Miami Dolphins (5-10) Sunday and get some help to return to the postseason, is currently listed as a 1.5-point underdog with the total set at 41.5.
After getting embarrassed in Philadelphia with a 45-19 loss, the Jets were crushed 29-14 by the New York Giants last Sunday.
Now, the Jets not only need to defeat the Dolphins, but they need the Cincinnati Bengals, the Tennessee Titans and either (or both) the Oakland Raiders and Denver Broncos to lose in order to punch their playoff ticket.
New York will need much better play from Mark Sanchez if it hopes to get past the Dolphins. He completed 30 of 59 passes for 258 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions last week. He rushed for a touchdown as well but also lost a fumble.
Dustin Keller, who was on the receiving end of eight of Sanchez’s passes, led the team with 77 receiving yards. Josh Baker hauled in the lone touchdown pass.
Shonn Greene led the way on the ground with 58 of the team’s 105 rushing yards.
The Dolphins, who failed to quit after a 0-7 start, gave the New England Patriots all they wanted and more in a 27-24 loss last week.
Miami took a 17-0 lead into halftime before giving up 27 unanswered points.
Matt Moore continued his solid play, connecting on 17 of 33 pass attempts for 294 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. Seven passes, including one touchdown toss, found the hands of Brandon Marshall, who torched the Patriots with 156 receiving yards.
Reggie Bush led the rushing attack with 113 yards on 22 totes.
The Dolphins have won four of the last six in this series, but the Jets won the most recent meeting 24-6 at home on Oct. 17.
Miami has been the hands down better bet lately, covering the spread in eight of its last nine games while the Jets have covered the number just twice in their last seven. Still, New York’s dominance in this series in terms of the point spread can’t be ignored.
The Jets are 19-6-2 against the spread in the last 27 meetings and 7-1 against the number in the last eight meetings in Miami.
In regard to the total, the Dolphins are 10-3-1 under in their last 14 games while the Jets are 24-9 over in their last 33 games.
