New York Jets at Seattle Seahawks NFL Predictions & Odds

While the Seahawks are long gone from the playoff hunt with a 3-11 record, they get a chance to play spoiler this week as the visiting Jets are in a heated three-team race in the AFC East. They just might have a chance too as the West Coast has not been kind to New York this season. The Jets were crushed at San Diego in their third game of the season. About a month later, they were upset by the Oakland Raiders. The Jets West Coast problems still were not cured when they lost at San Francisco on December 7th. New York has beaten the Seahawks five straight times however, and that’s enough incentive for odds makers to list the Jets as a 5-point favorite with the total set at 44.
It was a solid NFL betting campaign for Jets backers until recently. New York looked to have control of the AFC West after thumping then-undefeated Tennessee, but has since lost two of three games straight up and three in a row against the spread. The three straight losses against the NFL odds has backers at 7-7 on the season.
This is a must win for the Jets which are even with the New England Patriots and the Miami Dolphins in the AFC East. New York was able to keep pace in the division by defeating rival Buffalo 31-27 last week to break a two game losing streak. Brett Favre and the passing game was not on point last week. Favre threw for 149 yards in the first half but managed only 58 in the second. He was also picked off twice. The running game has continued to progress with Thomas Jones carrying the load. The Jets rushed for 165 yards in the game and have rushed for 140 or more in five of their last six games. Defensively, the Jets were awful against the run, allowing Buffalo to rack up 187 yards on the ground. Seattle has discovered its running game lately with back-to-back weeks of 125 or more yards. If you think New York can tighten things up in this must-win spot, bet the Jets at -5 at Bookmaker.
NFL picks on Seattle have not been a good idea this season. The Seahawks came into the season way overvalued as the class of the NFC West but it all came crashing down this season as the injury bug caught up with them. While the Seahawks were suspect on the road last season, they were still tough to take in Seattle. This season, the Seahawks are only 1-6 at home and just 2-4 against the number in those games. Seattle will have some momentum on its side finally as it was able to break a six-game losing skid with a win over St. Louis last week. The Seahawks have really looked good in five of their last six games and backers have a 3-2-1 record to show for it while the team.
QB Matt Hasselbeck is not yet recovered from his back problems so we will see exciting backup Seneca Wallace once again. Wallace was 15 of 25 for 226 yards last week against the Rams and played well the week before against New England too. Defensively, the Seahawks are averaging 25.4 ppg and will be dealing with an offense that is putting up 27.5 ppg on the season. The good news is that Seattle has been playing better on this side of the ball, holding its opponents under its season average in three of the last four games. If you like Seattle to pick up a third straight cover, bet the Seahawks at +5 at Bookmaker.
