The Philadelphia Eagles everything going for them in this game. Philly is playing on the house’s money after being all but eliminated from the playoffs heading into Week 17. Going into the week, even a win against the Cowboys wouldn’t have assured them of a playoff berth. They need the Bucs to lose to Oakland, and they needed Chicago to lose to Houston. Turns out both things happened, setting up a huge home game with Dallas where if they win, they were in. Philly not only won the game, they put on one of the most impressive performances by any team all season. The Eagles rolled 44-6, not allowing a potent Cowboys offense to score a single touchdown. A team like Philly playing with the house’s money is very dangerous, and they will come out playing like they have nothing to lose Sunday. Meanwhile, the Minnesota Vikings will be playing conservative under a very conservative head coach in Brad Childress. This approach will cost the Vikings, as Andy Reid makes all the right moves with his aggressive play-calling. Childress will rely on his running game and AP, but the Eagles will be ready for it as they stack 8 in the box to stop the run. Stopping the run has not been a problem for the Eagles, who allow just 92 rushing yards/game and 3.5 yards/carry. The Eagles have been a bit better on the road even, allowing just 3.3 yards/carry. The Eagles’ ability to stop the run, and their passing game led by Donovan McNabb give Philly a huge edge in this game. Minnesota’s weakness is their secondary, and Philly is averaging 244 passing yards/game this season and 26.0 points/game. McNabb finally has healthy receivers to throw the ball to, which proved to be huge in the second half of the season as they won 4 of their final 5 games behind McNabb’s arm and Westbrook’s legs. Now backup RB Correll Buckhalter has been coming on at the end of the season to give Westbrook much-needed rest and fresh legs to finish off games. The Eagles dedicated themselves to running the football, which was the key to getting things turned around down the stretch. Philly rushed for 185 yards against Arizona, 144 against the Giants, 134 against Cleveland, 62 against Washington and 137 against Dallas in their final 5 games. All 100-plus yard performances led to wins, while the only time they were held to less than 100 resulted in a loss. So Andy Reid knows he needs to run the football to be effective, and he’ll stick to the run all game long which will open up big plays for McNabb in the passing game against a terrible Minnesota secondary. Minnesota is 0-6 ATS after playing a game at home this season. This team has let up every time they played a home game the previous week, and they won’t have an answer for a Philly team that’s on a roll Sunday. Cash in with the Eagles as the favorite.
