The simplest horse racing bet is a win bet. A win bet is simply a bet on which horse you think will win the race. So if you think Nobiz Like Shobiz has it in the bag, place your win bet on him and reap the rewards.

Another simple bet is a place bet. This wager will improve your chances of winning so naturally it doesn’t pay as well as a win bet. For this bet, you select which horse you think will come in first or second.

A show bet is the other form of horse racing straight bet. As you might have guessed by now, it is a bet on which horse you feel will come in first, second, or third. With this bet and the place bet, you will receive more money with the higher place your horse finishes in. For example, first plays pays more than second and second more than third.

If you have never placed any horse racing betting before, these three straight bets are a good place to start for your 2007 Kentucky Derby betting.

Exotic bets are more complex than the above straight bets but they are a popular option for those who follow horse racing closely.

The Quinella exotic bet requires you to pick the first two finishing horse in any order to cash the bet. For example, if you select horses number 3 and 5 to win and place and that is what happens in either order, you cash the bet.

The Exacta bet is exactly like Quinella except that it requires you to pick the top two finishing horses in the exact order you feel they will finish.

The Trifecta is another form of exotic bet which is very difficult to pull off as you must pick the top three finishing horse in the exact order you feel they will finish.

The last type of exotic bet is the Daily Double. It involves picking the winning horse in two consecutive races.

I recommend you do a little research and place a show bet for the upcoming Kentucky Derby. You may also want to get together with some friends, pool your money, and try an exotic bet. Get together have some beers, place some bets, and you’ll be doing it every year from now on.
