Kentucky vs Georgia Football Odds & Picks
This week Georgia tries to forget about the stomping they received last week at Florida and maybe exact some revenge on the Kentucky Wildcats. It won’t be easy going, however, as the ‘Cats are playing at home and are a bowl-caliber team. With that being said, the Georgia Bulldogs have been mostly impressive this season, with their only losses coming to Alabama and Florida, two of the elite teams in college football. There’s plenty of motivation for both teams. Kentucky would certainly like this win on their resume to help them get the best possible bowl bid (they are already eligible for a bowl at 6-3), and Georgia still has a great chance at earning a spot in a BCS bowl game. The home team in this one, Kentucky, is an 11 point underdog against Georgia and the total for the game is 44.5 points.
The offense for Georgia struggled last week against Florida, but they have been a solid group all season long. Knowshon Moreno is one of the best running backs in the nation, averaging over 6 yards per carry and racking up just under 1,000 yards so far this season. At the quarterback position, Matt Stafford is also one of the tops in the nation as he’s completed 60 percent of his passes this year for 2,211 yards. Stafford has struggled with turning the ball over as a result of trying to hard to make the big play, but he still has 11 touchdowns to 8 interceptions this year. The combination of Stafford and Moreno make this a very hard team to stop. The Wildcats will need to bring their “A” game if they want any chance at the upset.
Touted as one of the best defenses in the nation before the season started, Georgia has been surprisingly mediocre on defense. They’ve allowed a far-from-impressive 23 points per game and have allowed over 300 yards of total offense. It’s nothing to be ashamed of, but they way that experts were gushing over this unit you would expect them to shutout every opponent every week. Nevertheless, the Georgia Bulldogs are are 11 point favorites this weekend at Kentucky.
Looking at the offensive statistics, it’s hard to believe this Kentucky team has been as successful as it has. They are putting up just around 22 points per game and only totaling 312 total yards of offense. The Wildcat offense will need to take advantage of every opportunity that they have this weekend if they can hope to keep this game close, because you know that Georgia is likely to put up a bunch of points.
Kentucky’s defense has been able to keep them in games as the offensive unit hasn’t been score a lot this year. Even factoring in the 63 points they gave up to Florida two weeks ago, the ‘Cats are allowing just 17.7 points per game this year. This is going to be a very difficult match up for Kentucky’s defense, however, because Georgia has so very many weapons to choose from. That’s probably why oddsmakers have the Wilcats as 11 point underdogs this week.
Georgia needs to win this game to keep their hopes of a BCS birth alive. That should be motivation enough for the Bulldogs to get ready for this game. The Bulldogs need to put the Florida game behind them as soon as possible, and nothing helps a team forget like pushing around a conference opponent. Kentucky is out-gunned all over the field, but should put up a respectable effort on their home field.
