Detroit Lions at Chicago Bears Odds

Written by Jimmy Boyd on November 8, 2011

The Chicago Bears (5-3) will be looking for a fourth straight win when they host the Detroit Lions (6-2) Sunday at Soldier Field.

The Bears are currently listed as a three-point favorite with the total set at 46.

Chicago took care of business Monday night with a 30-24 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles on the road.

Quarterback Jay Cutler connected on 18 of 32 pass attempts for 208 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions. Five of those completions and one of the touchdown tosses went to fellow Vanderbilt alumnus Earl Bennett, who led the Bears with 95 receiving yards.

Fourth-year running back Matt Forte continued his hard running with 133 of the team’s 164 rushing yards.

The Lions, who are coming off a bye, were last in action on Oct. 30 when they were 45-10 winners in Denver.

Third-year signal caller Matthew Stafford had a big day, completing 21 of 30 pass attempts for 267 yards with three touchdowns and no picks. Six of those completions, including one of the touchdown strikes, went to star wide receiver Calvin Johnson, who led the team with 125 receiving yards.

Veteran running back Maurice Morris led the way on the ground with 58 of the team’s 113 rushing yards and a touchdown.

With Jahvid Best listed as doubtful following a concussion, Morris will likely be asked to carry the load Sunday.

Best torched the Bears for 163 rushing yards and a touchdown in Detroit’s 24-13 home win on Oct. 10.

Since that game, the Bears are 3-0 while limiting their opponents to an average 67.3 rushing yards.

Another big performance on the ground isn’t likely for Detroit, who ranks 27th in the league with just 95.3 rushing yards per game.

The Bears, who rank 26th in the NFL against the pass with 264.3 yards allowed per contest, will still have to slow down the dynamic hook up combo of Stafford-to-Johnson.

Stafford ranks sixth in the NFC with 2,179 passing yards, and Johnson ranks second in the conference with 804 receiving yards. Megatron’s 11 touchdown receptions are the most in the league by far. No other receiver has more than six.

Chicago’s running game has been very important to its surge. The Bears have averaged 161.2 rushing yards while going 4-1 over their last five games.

Forte, who is second in the NFL with 805 rushing yards, could be poised for a big day against a Detroit defense that ranks 28th in the league against the run with 137.6 yards allowed per game.

Chicago had won six in a row in this series before losing the season’s first meeting. The Lions have covered the number in four of those seven games, including each of the last three.

It is also worth noting that the Bears have won 13 of their last 19 at home in this series, but the Lions are 11-8 against the spread in those contests.

In regard to the total, the over has been the play recently. These two have combined to finish over the number in four of the last six meetings.
