Detroit Lions at Green Bay Packers Odds
The Detroit Lions (10-5) and Green Bay Packers (14-1) will meet Sunday at Lambeau Field for their final regular season game.
With the Packers having already clinched the No. 1 seed in the NFC and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs, odds makers believe the Lions have the advantage.
They have listed Detroit as a 3.5-point favorite with the total set at 46.5.
The Lions, who have clinched a playoff berth and could end up as the No. 5 seed with a win or Atlanta Falcons loss, enter Week 17 off an impressive 38-10 victory over the San Diego Chargers.
Matthew Stafford completed 29 of 36 passes for 373 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions in last week’s blowout. Four completions, including a touchdown toss, went to star wideout Calvin Johnson, who led the team with 102 receiving yards.
Kevin Smith led the way on the ground with 49 yards and a score on 15 carries.
The Packers enter their regular-season finale off a 35-21 victory over the Chicago Bears.
Aaron Rodgers strengthened his case for league MVP honors by completing 21 of 29 passes for 283 yards with five touchdowns and no interceptions. Six passes, including two touchdowns, found the hands of Jordy Nelson, who led the team with 115 receiving yards.
Ryan Grant led the team in rushing with 44 yards on eight totes.
The Packers have won 11 of the last 12 in this series with the most recent being a 27-15 win on Thanksgiving.
Green Bay only took a 7-0 lead into halftime in that game, but rattled off 21-0 unanswered points in the third quarter to seal the win.
Odds makers clearly expect Green Bay to rest starters with nothing on the line, but Detroit could choose to rest its regulars as well.
If the Lions end up in the No. 6 seed, they will either play the San Francisco 49ers or New Orleans Saints. If they end up in the No. 5 seed, they will play either the Dallas Cowboys or New York Giants.
Rather than getting caught up in who or where the Lions might prefer to play, it might be best if they sat Stafford and company to avoid any freak injuries.
A statement made by coach Jim Schwartz indicates, however, that he may not take the foot off the gas pedal.
“We’re going to play the game to win,” Schwartz said. “It’s football, we’re going to try to win the game.”
A win for the Lions would snap a 20-game road losing streak against the Packers.
The Lions are 4-9-1 against the spread in their last 14 meetings in Green Bay.
The under is 4-1 in the last five matchups between these division rivals.
