Hawaii has owned Tech in the all time series, winning six of seven meetings, including a 24-14 victory last year, but it is usually no easy task for WAC teams to make the trip to Ruston.

The Hawaii offense has been explosive through the air this season, leading the nation with a 423.3 yards per game average. Overall, the Warriors rank sixth nationally in total offense. QB Greg Alexander is following in the footsteps of the record-breaking QB’s that have come before him and currently leads the country in total offense with a 446 yards per game average. His go-to guy has been wide receiver Greg Salas, who is averaging 159.7 yards per game.

While the Warriors figure to be able to move the football, this one will likely come down to how well the defense performs. The defense was the strength of last year’s team, but Hawaii ranks 97th in the country in defending the pass this season. And it was the defense which cost the Warriors against UNLV. I can’t see Hawaii stuffing the Bulldogs all day long so it is likely going to need some big plays from guys like Mana Silva, who already has three interceptions this season. It worth noting that the Warriors are 5-1 against the number in their last six road games. If you like the Warriors catching points with their explosive offense, bet Hawaii at +3.5 at Sportsbook.com.

A major key for Louisiana Tech will be how well it can defend the pass. Tech’s passing defense was atrocious in 2008, ranking 113th in the country, but it has played pretty well thus far, allowing only 156 passing yards per game. However, Louisiana Tech has played Auburn, Navy, and Nicholls State – three run heavy teams. So it looks like we’ll find out Wednesday night just how much the Bulldogs have improved in defending the pass. While Hawaii prefers to throw, they might consider running the football a little more against a defense that is giving up 251.7 rushing yards per game.

While the defense will have to be on its A-game, keeping the offense on the field may be Louisiana Tech’s best defense in this one. QB Ross Jenkins is playing well, coming off a career-high 357-yard performance against Nicholls State and the Bulldogs should be able to hurt Hawaii through the air, but they would like to get their running game going with tailback Daniel Porter. Porter is coming off an 1,100-yard season in which he helped the Bulldogs rank 27th nationally with their rushing offense, but so far he is only averaging 44.7 yards per game. If he can get going this week, the Bulldogs will have an excellent shot at defending their home turf. It is worth noting that the home team is 5-0 against the spread in the last five meetings in this series. If you like the Bulldogs to hold serve at home, bet Louisiana Tech at -3.5 at Sportsbook.com.
