Mayweather De La Hoya Betting

Written by Jimmy Boyd

Mayweather De La Hoya Betting is picking up steam with the big fight approaching. On May 5, 2007 on HBO pay-per-view, we can see one of the biggest bouts in professional boxing history. BetUS is an excellent online sportsbook where you can bet the big fight with great odds. Currently De La Hoya is listed as a +165 underdog against the -210 favorite Mayweather. With all the build up and all the talk of retirement for both fighters after the fight, I can’t wait to see these guys in the ring with the gloves on.

Floyd Mayweather puts his perfect 37-0 record with 24 KO’s on the line while De La Hoya risks his 154 pound title belt. It appears that Mayweather is the hungrier fighter when you consider that the Golden Boy seems to be more of a business man than a punisher in the ring nowadays. I’m not so quick to buy that. Though Mayweather seems harder outside the ring in the lead up to the fight with his De La Hoya jeers, don’t let De La Hoya’s smile fool you. This guy is still a force every time he steps in the ring and he knows that if he wants to continue to get huge draws from his bouts and other business opportunities that he is going to have to continue to perform with the gloves on.

Floyd Mayweather Sr. may be a bigger player in this fight than his son. He is famous for being De La Hoya’s corner man, but the Golden Boy’s refusal to pay him a flat $2 million for this bout has spurred on an unlikely occasion. Mayweather Sr. did not willingly accept De La Hoya’s $500,000 guaranteed and $500,000 bonus for a win offer so now he will be in his son’s corner. Will this be of bigger benefit to De La Hoya or Mayweather Jr.? This may give De La Hoya some extra incentive to train harder to win the fight because beating Mayweather Jr. would be like beating Mayweather Sr. as well. On the other hand, Mayweather Jr. could benefit from a restored relationship with his father who he was previously at odds with. But comfort in the corner could also take away from the edge that has made Mayweather Jr. a title holder at four different weight classes.

In many ways this fight pit’s the Donald Trump of boxing against its 50 cent. De La Hoya is the perfect face of the sport with his charisma and smile while Mayweather brings the street to the ring. This historic bout could be the beginning of a new cover boy with a new image if Mayweather can win as many expect. But if I were you, I wouldn’t count out the Golden Boy. He is showing great value as an underdog for this fight.
