Mayweather De La Hoya Odds

Written by Jimmy Boyd

With the big fight coming up, it’s time to take a look at the Mayweather De La Hoya betting odds. The Golden Boy taking on the Pretty Boy in what will be one of the biggest fights in boxing history. De La Hoya has always been a huge draw, with a non-heavyweight fight record of 1.4 million buys when he took on Felix Trinidad in 1999. With six months to market and promote this battle, you can expect the buys to approach 2 milliions, which would be a boxing record. The fight will be on May 5, 2007 on HBO PPV. De La Hoya comes into this bout at 38-4 with 30 KOs, while Mayweather is a perfect 37-0 with 24 KOs. Both of these fighters have hinted at retirement after this fight, but it appears more likely that Mayweather, who wants to go out on top, will give it up than De La Hoya. Oscar is a great business man and he’ll probably earn a significant amount more than Floyd will in this fight (i’ts reported Mayweather will get $10 million and Oscar $25 million) , and he isn’t going to want to turn away these large purses when he’s in good health.

De La Hoya is putting his belt on the line, but this means that Mayweather is going to have to move up in weight from 147 pounds to 154. If Mayweather can take Oscar’s belt, this will mean he has held titles in five different weight classes over the course of his career.

Another key factor in the fight will be the Floyd Mayweather, Sr. factor. He has been De La Hoya’s trainer for quite some time but Oscar only wanted to give him $500,000 up front and an additional $500,000 for a victory. Senior wanted a straight $2 million but when he was denied he made up with his son and now will be in his corner for the fight. We’ll see what this means for the fight on May 5th and if we can cash in with our Mayweather De La Hoya betting.
