Missouri v. Oklahoma Football Betting Odds & Predictions

Written by Jimmy Boyd

The BCS standings gave Oklahoma the edge over South Division rivals Texas and Texas Tech to compete in this Saturday’s Big 12 title game against North champion Mizzou at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri. Many projected this matchup prior to the season as it is a rematch of last year’s Big 12 title game which Oklahoma won 38-17. This year’s game is more important as a win by Oklahoma puts the Sooners in the BCS Championship game and that’s exactly where odds makers think the Sooners will end up. Oklahoma is listed as a 17-point favorite with the total set at 79.

Offensively, the Sooners have been impossible to stop. So Mizzou has one option this week, outscore them the way Texas did, which is much easier said than done. Heading into the Big 12 championship game, Oklahoma is averaging 53.3 points per game, 7.1 yards per play, 10 yards per pass attempt, 14.7 per completion and 4.7 per rush. Over the Sooners’ last five games, they have scored 58, 62, 66, 65 and 61 points while gaining 528, 508, 653, 625 and 557 yards. And Heisman Trophy candidate QB Sam Bradford has been a big reason for the success. He enters this game averaging 340 passing yards per with 46 touchdown passes against just six interceptions.

Defensively, Oklahoma has given up some points, but its unit remains one of the better ones in the Big 12. Oklahoma is allowing 359.5 yards and 24.8 points per game. While it has been tremendous at times, shutting down the Red Raiders, it has been porous at other times, allowing 41 points and 452 yards against Oklahoma State last week. If you think the Sooners can cover the 17-point spread, bet Oklahoma at Bookmaker and receive a 20% cash sign up bonus.

Missouri has not had the type of season it had in 2007, but the Tigers have done enough to land themselves in the Big 12 title game once again and this time they’ll be looking for a better result against the Sooners. Hopefully last week’s 40-37 loss to rival Kansas will fuel the fire instead of wounding the Tigers prior to facing their toughest challenge of the season. There is no doubt that Mizzou’s pass coverage has struggled and that presents major problems this week, but the good news is that the Tigers have a quick strike offense that has the potential to match the Sooners if it does not turn the ball over. Wide receiver Jeremy Maclin will be a marked man this week if Oklahoma knows what’s good for them. The sophomore all-purpose dynamo is Missouri’s most explosive player. He is a lot like Florida’s Percy Harvin. He caught nine balls for 123 yards and a score last week. After a shaky start, 2007-08 Heisman Trophy finalist QB Chase Daniel led four touchdown drives in six possessions last last week against Kansas to get the Tigers back in the game. He also rushed for 103 yards and his legs could be a vital part of the Mizzou offense this week and it looks to keep Oklahoma spread out and guessing. If you think odds makers have overvalued the Sooners, bet Missouri at +17 at Bookmaker.
