Baseball betting is done on the money line so all you
have to do is pick the winner and you don’t have to pay
the ridiculous juice you are expected to pay in other
sports for picking favorites. With that being said,
picking underdogs are the way to go this MLB season. If
you are someone with the ability to pick dogs on a
consistent basis you can make more while wagering less.
Here’s what I mean. If the Boston Redsox are a -127
favorite against the Baltimore Orioles you would have to
pay $127 to win $100 to take the Redsox. So it’s easy to
see that the value is much better in taking the Orioles
at +127 as you only have to spend $100 to win $127. This
is just hypothetically speaking so that you understand a
little bit more about how baseball money line betting
works. Obviously if Schilling is on the hill for the
Redsox with this line you may want to lay the $127 on
the BoSox, but if Schilling is on the mound and he is
just coming off of injury, perhaps the O’s would be
showing more value here. These are just some of the
types of things that are important to think about when
making your MLB picks.
Although money line betting is the major form of
MLB betting, you can
also place wagers on the total and the run line. Neither
of these types of wagers show as much value on a day in
day out basis, but there are certain occasions when both
wagers can be appropriate. If there are two aces on the
mound and the total is set at 8 runs, you may want to
think about taking the under. Here’s another example of
when you may want to think about making a run line bet.
Let’s say you really like the Yankees to win against the
Royals but you don’t want to pay $227 to win $100. If
you think that New York will win by more than 1.5 runs,
it will lower the juice and make this bet more
affordable for you.
