NBA Basketball Futures & Betting Odds

Written by Steve Janus

With the pressure to win and win now in the NBA, several head coaching jobs may already be in jeopardy.  The Memphis Grizzlies are off to a terrible 6-15 start to their season, are already 7.5 games out of first place, and aren’t show any signs of improvement.  Head Coach Marc Iavaroni is the NBA coach who is most likely to be fired.  Reggie Theus, head coach of the Sacramento Kings is another name thought to be on the chopping block.  The Kings are just 6-16 to start the season and owners, the Maloof family and Robin Hernreich, aren’t going to sit around and wait for Theus to slowly turn things around.  They want results now.  The 76ers’ Maurice Cheeks is also on thin ice.  His team is 9-12 and already 10.5 games out of first in the Eastern Conference Atlantic Division.  These are just some of the names at the top of the list.  You could also take a look at the “Field” at 3/1, meaning it could be any NBA head coach that’s not listed below to be the next one to be fired.  The sad fact is that, in the world of professional sports, nobody’s job is ever truly safe.  It’s gotten to the point where head coaches are just one bad season away from seeking employment elsewhere.  BetUs.com has listed odds on the next NBA head coach to be fired, plus they’ve added a proposition bet on how many current NBA coaches will be fired by the end of the season:

Odds on the next NBA head coach to be fired:
Marc Iavaroni, Grizzlies  2/1
Reggie Theus, Kings      5/2
Maurice Cheeks, 76ers   7/2
Mike Dunleavy, Clippers 5/1

BetUS.com also features NBA futures bets on everything from this year’s NBA MVP to which team Lebron James will be playing for in the 2010-2011 NBA season.  Bettors seek NBA odds like this out because, if they feel that they can predict who will win the NBA Finals or the MVP in the NBA, why not get the best payout on that bet.  Also, some people use these odds as a good indicator of where their favorite player or team sits at this point in the year.  For example, Lebron James is at 1/2 odds to win the MVP this year, making him the odds on favorite over Chris Paul and Kobe Bryant, who are tied for 2nd worst odds (best chance of winning) at 4/1.  Below, we’ve listed some of the most popular NBA futures bets available now at Betus.com:
