NBA Playoff Odds: Boston Celtics vs. Orlando Magic Game 6
Tuesday night, the defending NBA Finals champion Boston Celtics took control of their Eastern Conference Semifinal Series with the Orlando Magic by rallying from a 14-point deficit to prevail 92-88 to take a 3-2 lead in the series. It was Boston’s second straight thrilling win in this series and just the second time in the 2009 NBA Playoffs that it had won back-to-back games. The Celtics will get a chance to close the door on the Magic in Orlando Thursday night at 7:00 pm EST on ESPN, but NBA odds makers believe this thing is going to go seven games. The Orlando Magic are listed as 7-point favorites with the total set at 190.
Ray Allen’s shooting woes continued for the Celtics as he finished just 3 of 11 from the field, but he hasn’t let his poor shooting in this series destroy his confidence. Allen rose up and nailed a key three pointer with just over a minute remaining to give the Celtics their first lead since midway through the first quarter and they wouldn’t look back. The game was a bit of a coming out party for backup point guard Stephon Marbury. When the Celtics were struggling to find ways to score, Marbury stepped up and went on a little scoring spree to keep Boston in the game. He finished with 12 huge points on 5 of 10 shooting. If Boston hopes to get the job done on the road, it’s going to take another strong performance off the bench from Marbury, especially since starter Rajon Rondo has not been able to live in the paint the way he did in round number one. The Celtics know the Magic are going to give them their best shot with their playoff life on the line so it will be up to Boston to match the intensity. If you think Boston has what it takes to close this thing out in six, bet the Celtics at +7 at Bookmaker and receive a 20 percent cash sign up bonus.
The Orlando Magic blew a golden opportunity to pull ahead in the series with a chance to close it out at home on Thursday night. Now they will be fighting to stay alive. Orlando led for nearly the entire Game 5, getting great play from Rafer Alston, Rashard Lewis, and Hedo Turkoglu, but it took its foot off the gas pedal down the home stretch to run clock and it paid for it. Orlando has struggled from three point land in this series. It shot just 25 percent in Game 5. With the way the Magic have struggled, it makes sense to me to get the ball inside to Dwight Howard a whole lot more. Heading into the series, many felt Howard would have a field day with Kevin Garnett not in the lineup to defend him, but the Magic have not fed him consistently enough. Howard scored just 12 points on 5 of 10 shooting and only had 3 free throw attempts. I think it’s time the Magic rediscovered who their best player is. If you think Orlando will bounce back strong to pick up the win and the cover in this do-or-die Game 6, bet the Magic at -7 at Bookmaker.
