NBA Playoff Odds: Chicago Bulls vs. Boston Celtics Game 5
The No. 7 seed Chicago Bulls won’t go down without a fight. After Boston hit the Bulls in the mouth with a blowout victory in Game 3, it looked as if the reigning NBA champs might be ready to take control of the series, but the Bulls held off Boston in Game 4 in double overtime to even the series. This has been the most competitive first round series with two games being decided in extra time and another decided by a buzzer beater, but NBA odds makers expect Bean Town to take care of business in Game 5 and have listed the Boston Celtics as 7.5-point favorites with the total set at 200.
The Chicago Bulls were able to steal Game 1 in Boston and now they’ll have to do it again if they hope to knock out the defending NBA Finals champs. One thing we know for sure is that Derrick Rose will have to play well for the Bulls to have a chance. Rose has been sensational in both of Chicago’s wins and very mediocre in its two losses. In Game 1, Rose starred with a memorable performance, scoring 36 points and adding 11 assists. Rose combined for just 19 points and 9 assists in Game’s 2 and 3. The NBA Rookie of the Year responded in front of his home town fans in Game 4 with a 23-point, 9-assist, and 11-rebound performance. While Ben Gordon has been huge for Chicago with his clutch shots in this series, the other guy Chicago must have play well to win is Joakim Noah. It is no coincidence that the Bulls have won the two games in which he has posted a double double. In Game 1, Noah had 11 points and 17 rebounds and in Game 4, he tallied 12 points and 10 rebounds. If you feel odds makers aren’t giving enough respect to Chicago with this line, bet the Bulls at +7.5 at BetUS and receive up to 145 percent in sign up bonuses.
The Boston Celtics were able to steal one game at Chicago to regain home court, but the Celtics wanted both games in the Windy City and it looked like they would get them. Ray Allen came up with a big three pointer at the end of regulation to send the game into overtime. The Celtics then controlled the first overtime period before fellow UConn standout Ben Gordon nailed a three point shot to send the game into a second extra frame. The Bulls wouldn’t look back. The Celtics have come to expect big games from point guard Rajon Rondo, who is averaging a triple double in the series, but surprisingly, leading scorer and NBA Finals MVP, Paul Pierce has not lived up to his reputation as a big game performer. Pierce would finish with 29 points in Game 4, his highest output of the series, but he really didn’t get going until overtime. The Bulls have often been defending Pierce with the much shorter Kirk Hinrich, and Pierce is not taking advantage often enough. If you think Pierce is ready to break out with a big game, bet the Celtics at -7.5 at BetUS.
