NBA Playoff Odds: Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Detroit Pistons Game 3

Written by Jimmy Boyd

cavs-pistons-game-3-42309LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers head to Detroit up 2-0 for Game 3 of this Eastern Conference Playoff series on Friday, April 24th. The game can be seen on ESPN at 7:00 pm EST. The first two games of this series have been all Cleveland, but NBA odds makers are expecting a much more competitive Game 3, listing the Detroit Pistons as a 4.5-point underdog with the total set at 178.

I don’t think anyone expected the Cavs to lose a game at home in this series considering that they finished the regular season at 39-2 and one of those losses came in the last game of the regular season when they were resting their key guys. The Cavs have shown some vulnerability on the road at times however. They finished the regular season with a strong 27-14 road mark, but they did lose two of their last four road contests. The Pistons have won six of nine home games against the Cavs over the last three seasons and are an impressive 24-8 at home against Cleveland in their last 32 games. While it doesn’t look very promising that the Pistons can come back and win this series, the Pistons are a proud veteran team that has made six straight trips to the Eastern Conference Finals. I don’t expect them to go down without a fight. Game 3 should bring about their best effort as it is more or less a do or die game. One player you might see more of who could help give the Pistons a spark is guard Will Bynum, who came off the bench to ignite a fourth quarter come back in Game 2. If you think Detroit has what it takes to take the Cavs down to the wire in Game 3, bet the Pistons at +4.5 at BetUS and receive up to 145% in sign up bonuses.

Cleveland has looked next to unstoppable in its first two games. If it can continue to play like it did in those two home contests, it could ride its home court advantage to an NBA championship. Odds makers are counting on Game 3 being a lot more competitive. The key for Cleveland is going to be to come out strong and put the pressure on Detroit just as it has in the first two games. The Pistons most generally aren’t an explosive enough team to erase big leads. Another big key for the Cavs is to drive the ball to the basket instead of settling for jump shots. The threes usually don’t fall for teams on the road like they do at home. Defensively, Cleveland has done an excellent job of making the Pistons a jump shooting team. Detroit really didn’t get any penetration until Will Bynum and the second unit came in late in the second half. If Cleveland is able to execute this game plan, they should head into Game 4 up 3-0. Bet the Cavs at -4.5 at BetUS.
