NBA Playoff Odds: Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Orlando Magic Game 4

Written by Jimmy Boyd

cavs-magic-gm-4-52609After cruising through the first two rounds of the playoffs with eight straight wins by 10 points or more, the Cavaliers enter Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals down 1-2 with their backs against the wall. Cleveland’s 89-99 Game 3 loss marked the third straight time that it has lost by double digits in Orlando this season. Game 4 goes down Tuesday night at 8:30 pm EST on TNT and NBA odds makers are currently listing the Cleveland Cavaliers as a 1.5-point favorite with the total set at 188. Will Cleveland bounce back with a win as the odds makers have projected or are the books simply trying to trap the public? Jimmy Boyd breaks down the Game 4 matchup in this preview.

The Cavs know they must win tonight in order to head back home with the series all tied up, but recent history is not on their side. They have played three games in Orlando this season and all three games have been double digit defeats. In fact, Orlando is 9-4 straight up and 12-1 against the spread in all games against Cleveland over the last three seasons, including 5-1 straight up and against the spread at home during this span. One thing is for sure, if the Cavs are going to respond, they will need a much better effort from the “other guys” tonight. LeBron is doing what MVP’s should do, averaging 35.3 points per game in the playoffs and 41.7 points, 7.3 assists, and 5.6 rebounds per game in this series. It is going to be up to guys like Mo Williams, Delonte West, and Zydrunas Ilgauskas to step up their games for the Cavs to win. Plus, Cleveland is going to need to do a better job on defensive end. The Cavs have allowed the Magic an average of 100.3 points per game in this series, which is nearly 10 points higher than their season average. If you like Cleveland to respond with a victory, bet the Cavs at -1.5 at BetUS and receive up to 145 percent in sign up bonuses.

The Magic have a golden opportunity to put the heat on Cleveland tonight with a chance to go up 3-1. As you can see by the numbers I listed above, beating Cleveland has not been as difficult a task for the Magic as it has for the rest of the league. Orlando is taking advantage of its mismatches with Hedo Turkoglu, Rashard Lewis, and Dwight Howard to perfection. Ilgauskas is too slow and Anderson Varejao hasn’t been strong enough to contain the quick and powerful Howard in the post. The Magic showed a lot of confidence in the young man when they went to him time and time again down the stretch of Game 3. The Cavs enacted the hack Howard defense to try to take advantage of his well-known struggles as the free throw line, but Howard stepped up and knocked them down to help secure the win. He finished 14 of 19 from the free throw stripe. James matches up better than anyone else on Cleveland with both Turkoglu and Lewis, but he can only guard one at a time. When the undersized West was guarding Turkoglu, the Magic big fella, who can handle the ball like a guard, went to work, using his size and strength to get in the lane at will. If you think Orlando can take advantages of its mismatches again in Game 4, bet the Magic at +1.5 at BetUS.

I like the Cavs by 5. I think that they will come out strong and they will begin to hit their jumpers again. They were too good a team during the regular season to put together back to back sub-par performances.

If they are accurate from the perimeter than Lebron gets his near triple doubles and they have balanced scoring. This was what made the Cavs so successful this season.

The balance was better, but Cleveland could not overcome Orlando’s 17 three pointers. Plus, LeBron had several costly turnovers down the stretch. I was with you on Cleveland, but the cookie did not crumble in our favor.

Got something to say?
