NBA Playoff Odds: Dallas Mavericks vs. Denver Nuggets Game 5
The Dallas Mavericks showed a lot of heart in Game 4. It would have been easy to pack it in down 0-3, especially when the Nuggets got out to a double digit first half lead, but Dirk Nowitzki and the Mavs battled back to emerge with a 2-point win. You can catch Game 5 Wednesday night at 9:00 pm EST on TNT. NBA odds makers think Denver will take care of business in Game 5, listing the Nuggets as 8.5-point favorites with the total set at 213.5.
The Dallas Mavericks put their heartbreaking Game 3 loss behind them and decided they would not roll over and die in Game 4. Dirk Nowitzki, who has been brilliant throughout the series averaging 35 points and 12 rebounds per game, was otherworldly in Game 4. Dirk finished with 44 points and 13 rebounds on 14 of 25 shooting. He would not settle for jumpers either. He attacked the basket aggressively and lived at the foul line as a result, shooting 16 of 17 from the charity stripe. What’s even more impressive is that 19 of Dirk’s points came in that pressure-packed fourth quarter when every possession was critical. The win lifted a huge monkey off Dallas’ back as Denver had won the previous eight meetings. It’s going to take another gutsy effort from Dirk Nowitzki and more attention to detail on the defensive end for the Mavs to pull off the Game 5 upset. One thing is for sure, we can expect the Mavs to leave it all out on the floor, just as Nowitzki said in his post game interview. If they were going to pack it in, they would have done it last game so they wouldn’t have to fly to Denver. Dallas, once again, has the luxury of playing with nothing to lose, and if you think it is capable of pulling off the upset, bet the Mavericks at +8.5 at BetUS and receive up to 145 percent in sign up bonuses.
The Denver Nuggets ended their first round series in five games and they will look to do the same in round number two. Denver is 6-1 straight up and against the spread at home versus Dallas the last three seasons and has won eight of its last nine games overall against the Mavs. So the odds of ending this series Wednesday night are in Denver’s favor. It’s probably safe to say that we can expect another outstanding performance from Carmelo Anthony, who had his way with the hobbled Josh Howard and every other Dallas defender in Game 4. Anthony is averaging 30 points per game in this series and carried the Nuggets in Game 4 with a 41-point, 11-rebound performance. The Nuggets have been a spectacular home team all season at 38-8 including the playoffs. In fact, Denver has won 15 straight at home dating back to the regular season. Denver is the better team in this series, and it has home court on its side in Game 5, but it must commit to the defensive end if it wants to advance to the Western Conference Finals on Wednesday night. Denver has not been as good defensively in its last three games, allowing Dallas to score at least 105 points in each, after holding its opponents under 95 points in each of its first six playoff games. If you like Denver to close out this series and cover the number in the process, bet the Nuggets at -8.5 at BetUS.
