Nevada v. Missouri Football Odds & Picks
The Missouri Tigers head west to take on the Nevada Wolf Pack at Mackay Stadium in Reno, Nevada under the Friday night lights on ESPN. Mizzou is off to a 3-0 start this season and will be looking to conclude non-conference action with a win this week. Meanwhile, Nevada enters 0-2, and has been blown out by 15-plus points in each of its two games. The high-powered offensive attack we saw average 37.6 points per game is yet to show up. NCAA football odds makers have listed the Missouri Tigers as the 7.5-point favorite.

So far, Missouri has shown two sides. There’s the side that dominated Illinois and Furman and then there’s the side that was lucky to beat Bowling Green. The Tigers will need their better side to show if they hope to defeat a hungry Nevada squad in their first true road game of the year.
While QB Chase Daniel, wide receiver Jeremy Maclin, and tight end Chase Coffman have moved on, Mizzou is still a potent passing team. During one stretch last week, QB Blaine Gabbert led the Tigers on five consecutive touchdown drives. In those possessions, he completed 16 of 20 passes for 250 yards and threw three touchdown strikes. On the season, he has completed 68 percent of his throws for eight touchdowns and no interceptions. Gabbert has had the luxury of a strong supporting cast at the wide receiver position. Senior Jared Perry looked like a true No. 1 wideout last week. His 161 receiving yards were the third most by a Mizzou receiver this decade. He also caught two touchdown passes. He’s joined by fellow senior Danario Alexander who became just the sixth Tiger to ever throw and catch a touchdowns in the same game. It’s hard to think the Tigers won’t be able to move the football against a Wolf Pack defense which has had plenty of holes through the first two games. But Nevada is a different team at home and you can count on the Wolf Pack being pumped up for their home opener. It is worth noting that the Tigers are 11-0 against the spread in their last 11 games as a favorite of 3.5-10.0 points. If you like the Tigers to roll on the road Friday night, bet Mizzou at -7.5 at Sportsbook.com.
The Nevada Wolf Pack went down to the Colorado State Rams last week, but that was nothing new as they were 0-5 in Fort Collins heading into the game. One thing is for sure this week, the Wolf Pack could not be hungrier. After getting off to an 0-2 start, Nevada returns home looking for revenge against a Mizzou team that won last year’s meeting 69-17 in Columbia. The way the Pack lost to Colorado State in Week 3 also figures to fuel the fire. The Pack committed five turnovers, which led to 28 of the Rams 35 points. As I already mentioned, Nevada is a different team at home. In fact, it played a Boise State team which finished the 2008 regular season undefeated to a 34-41 game in Reno last season. But if the Wolf Pack want to have a chance this week, they can’t afford to turn the ball over. Nevada is going to need a huge game from 2008 WAC Offensive Player of the Year QB Colin Kaepernick, who finished with 24 yards rushing and 251 yards passing last week. Tailback Vai Taua, who is coming off a 95-yard, two-touchdown performance on the ground, and wide receiver Brandon Wimberly, who is coming off a 7-catch, 104-yard performance, will have to come up big as well. Nevada got off to very slow start last week, and that can’t happen here. I believe it will be crucial for the Pack to get on the board early to get the crowd fired up and to put the pressure on the Tigers. It is worth noting that the Wolf Pack are 21-8 against the number in their last 29 home games and the Tigers are 0-6 against the spread in their last six games following an against the spread victory. If you think the Wolf Pack have what it takes to take Mizzou down to the wire, bet Nevada at +7.5 at Sportsbook.com.
