New England Patriots at New Orleans Saints NFL Odds & Picks
The 7-3 New England Patriots take on the New Orleans Saints in Week 12 on ESPN’s Monday Night Football in what could be a Super Bowl preview. Last week, the Patriots defeated the Jets 31-14 while the Saints took care of the Bucs 38-7. These two teams last met in the 2005 season with New England pulling out a 24-17 win behind three touchdown strikes by Tom Brady. The win was New England’s third straight over the Saints and its eighth in 11 all-time meetings. NFL odds makers believe this will be a close one, but ultimately they have New Orleans remaining unbeaten, listing the Saints as 3-point favorites with the total set at 56.

New England is one of only two teams with winning records left on New Orleans’ schedule. So if the Saints can get past the Patriots Monday night, they could be well on their way to joining New England as the only teams to finish the regular season 16-0. It is obvious the pressure is mounting as the target on New Orleans’ back grows larger. Before last week’s blowout of the Bucs, New Orleans was tested four weeks in a row.
The Saints have the league’s highest scoring offense, averaging 36.9 points per game, and quarterback Drew Brees is a big reason why. Brees has thrown for 2746 yards and 22 touchdowns against nine interceptions. He faces a challenge this week, though, against the Patriots’ sixth ranked passing defense. This one very well could come down to which star QB plays better. If that is the case, Brees could use some help from defensive end Will Smith to give him the edge. Smith now has six sacks in the last four games and the Saints could use a few more out of him against Tom Brady this week. It is worth noting that the Saints are 12-3 ATS in their last 15 games as a favorite. If you like New Orleans to remain undefeated and to cover the small number in the process, bet the Saints at -3 at Bodog.
The Patriots have won six straight Monday Night Football games, proving time and time again that they are one of the toughest teams to beat on the biggest stages. They should have an excellent opportunity to pull off the upset Monday night if Tom Brady continues his strong play. Brady has now thrown for 300 or passing yards in five straight games, something he’s never done before in the NFL, and he could be poised for another big game against a Saints’ defense ranked just 16th against the pass.
The Patriots have only played two games against teams that currently have winning records and they have lost both of those contests. They lost at Denver and they lost to the Colts on Sunday Night Football two weeks back. The thing to consider is that the Patriots held leads in both of those games. If New England is going to make a statement with a win over the explosive Saints, it won’t be able to take its foot off the gas pedal at any point. It is worth noting that the Patriots are 37-17-2 ATS in their last 56 road games. If you like New England to spoil the Saints’ perfect season, bet the Patriots at +3 at Bodog.
